If it is not your network don't try it. It has illegal written all over it.

Edit (this is for the second part which you didn't mention the first time) : If you are using your system for work and if you are going to different places, you need to talk with whoever handles the network. If you go to hotels or cafes or places where they have internet access, ask them. They will give you all the information you need.

The main problem with connecting to a network illegally is your system could be subject to a breakin. If you can connect to a system that is not yours then it is not a secure network. This means that others could be connecting to it. They may "watch" and access your system without your knowledge. Had this happen to a friend of mine. Why take chances?

1st - The reason it's a secure network is to keep people like yourself out. They put a password on the network so unauthorized users can't get in. Someone somewhere is paying for that internet and chances are, they don't want you snarfing their connection. Sorry to tell you.

2nd - Getting a router shouldn't crash your computer. Spyware and malware will. You need anti-virus software.

if the stronger signal network is secured, there is NO way you can access it without a password or by hacking (but thats illegal), you can try buy a router, and it seems impossible for a router to crash you computer, hence it has its own motherboard/parts whatever you want to call it, what caused you computer to crash MUST have been something else you have done earlier... and when you buy your router, there is no need to put the cd it came with it into your computer (that might have crashed your computer, it corrupted your WINDOWS file).
good luck, i work with netwroks everyday =].xxx
