Most people do. Only the Christians see three gods as monotheistic.

In the Middle Ages the Jews were forced into a corner on that issue. If they said the Trinity was polytheism they would have even more problems surviving in the Christian world than they already were. So they chose the "politically correct" answer and said the Trinity was a form of monotheism just to keep the Christians off their backs. As far as I know, the Jews of today have not gone back on that rabbinical decision, at least not officially.

My humble tribute to this quite vague topic: in my country there is a common metaphor that is used to explain Trinity:

"There's only one Sun. We know it exists, we see its light and we feel its warmth. That's Trinity: three different perceptions of ONLY one God. We know He exists, we saw Him through the Christ and we feel His presence through the Holy Ghost."

And I've never heard my Muslim friends saying that I'm a polytheist... on the contrary, they use to wish me merry Chrismas and Easter. I know I am going to get 1000 thumbs down now, but when I read some argues here... I really wish to become a Muslim or a Jew or anything. I've grown up with different people and my brain just can't grasp why do people want to put an accent to differences between religions. Could we talk about some common features, just for a change?

The teaching is that there are three Persons in ONE God - God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Hence, there is no belief in "many gods"(poly theos) entailed in this doctrine.

The Bible speaks of this belief when it says we are made in the image and likeness of God, i.e., we humans are also a trinity within one entity in that we have Spirit(the breath of God) that is the spark of life; we have Body, which is our inheritance from all of our ancestors; and we have Soul, which is for every human a unique melding of Spirit and Body.

So, anyone who considers the Trinity doctrine as polytheistic is misinformed and mistaken, and has ignored or misinterpreted the Scriptures that reveal the three Persons of the One God. It is best to read the Bible as a whole, not just the parts that support a particular religion or set of beliefs.

While the idea of trinities was popular among pagans of the Roman Empire 2,000 years ago, the actual concept of the trinity in Christianity is taken almost directly from Greek neo-Platonic monotheism.

The neo-Platonists believed in a trinity whose three elements were God (or "The Good," the ultimate perfection from which all good things derive), "the Word" (a frequent Christian expression for Jesus, "the Word made flesh," it was the chief method which God used to interact with the universe), and a "Holy Spirit" (an aspect of divinity which was present in all of creation).

Very little of the neo-Platonic trinity has changed since its incorporation into Christianity.

for starters the word trinity was incorporated from Roman Mythology - of course when you make Jesus into Lord of the Universe along side with God of the Universe alongside the Holy Spirit..... you made all 3 the commanders in Cheif - life can not be like that - there is a structure and chain of command - God is God with no one on His side and the very one that will reside over the Day of Judgement - the creator of everything and the one that will judge all of His creation, including the Holy Spirit and Jesus Christ

#1 The Mormons are polytheistic already. They believe the Father was Adam and earned his way to be God of our world. That there are other Gods over different worlds. If you follow all the Mormon precepts ,you too can earn a godhood.
The Jews just recognize God's singularity not His complexity. The Muslims worship El Allah who was the ancient Arabic Moon God.Muhammad just Incorporated him into his new religion since that was the god his family worshiped.
God is like 1x1x1= 1 One God in three persons. We use 10% of our brain so it is difficult for us to fathom this. All I know is God said "Let us create man in our image"...
Then John 1 says ,Jesus was with God and was God at creation. Collosians 1 and Hebrews 1 both state that the worlds and everything in them were created by God through Jesus. That puts those passages and Genesis 1 together. Then Peter says to Annanias in Acts 5 "You have lied to the Holy Spirit,..you have not lied to man but to God".
That shows he is God also ,so there you go.All three are God but God is one.Deal with it.

I dont know about Mormon's , but Jews, No.1 of the 10 Commandments is very clear, and Muslim because i am one of them, say YES.

I CANT SAY 3 = 1.

I am NOT trying to preach but I like to give my thought, it's only mine; I hope my God Will Forgive me as I like to share :

These days Ive seen 3 in 1 products like Nescafe , but for sure :
Sugar is not the same as coffee and neither the same as milk.
They have to mix it and put water and becoming a coffee drink.
But if you say : sugar is coffee drink, coffee is coffee drink and milk is coffee drink it's not The Truth

So, if people believe God is God, Jesus is Jesus and Jibril is Jibril, then it's a TRUTH , we can only have faith upon TRUTH .

; same like when you say God is God, Jesus is God and Holy Spirit is God; It's not THE TRUTH. Any faith w/o truth, cant give strength.

Polytheism doesn't give a strong faith, it's weak. That is why when you see a muslim talking and a christians talking abt their faith, you can feel the difference.

This is why I choose to stick with my Islam, although I read some other books.
Bible I find today, give same impact to me like when I read the Hadiths.

Also, believing Jesus as God, diversed my thought abt God Who Sent Jesus down, that means there are 2 Gods, plus Jibril ...??? Make into 3 ......It's 3 gods = polytheism.

I say it's weaken, and poly, because we have to separate their duty :
Jesus the savior,
What's God Father job?
What'sJibril's job?

It is a 'mystery'.
The history of the trinitarian concept predates the Christian inclusion of it which is traced to around the 4th century.
The original trinity concept was adopted from other religions after the final book of the Bible-John was written in the year 98.
Neither the word trinity, nor the explicit (overt) doctrine are readily apparent in the Holy Bible.

The rejection of the very idea of God having a son is restated later in the same chapter in the Quran with even stronger words: "And they say, The All-merciful has taken unto Himself a son. You have indeed advanced something hideous. As if the skies are about to burst, the earth to split asunder and its mountain to fall down in the utter ruin for that they have attributed to the All-merciful a son; and behaves not the All-merciful to take a son. None there in the heavens and earth but comes to the All-merciful as a servant" (Maryam 19:88-93)

The Quran recognizes the fact that Jesus had no human father, but this does not make him the son of God, or God himself. By this criterion, Adam would have been more entitled more entitled to be the son of God, because he had neither a father nor a mother, so the Quran draws attention to the miraculous creation of both in the following verses; " truly the likeness of Jesus, in God's sight is as Adam's likeness; He created him of dust, then He said upon him, 'Be' and hi was. (Al-Imran 3:59)

The Quran rejects the concept of Trinity God the Father, God the son, God the Holy Spirit - as strongly as it rejects the concept of Jesus as the son of God. This is because GOD IS ONE. Three cannot be one. The Quran addresses Christians in the following verses from the Surrah entitled "An-Nisaa" (The Women)

People of the Book, do not go beyond the bounds in your religion, and say nought as to God but the Truth. The messiah, Jesus, son of Mary, was only the messenger of God, and his word (Fulfilment of his word (Fulfilment of His command, through the word "Be", for the creation of Jesus) that he committed to Mary, and a spirit originating from Him (was given life by God). So believe in God and His Messengers, and say not 'Three'. Refrain, better is for you. God is only one God. Glory be to him-that He should have a son! To Him belongs all that is in the Heavens and in the Earth; God suffices for a guardian.
