If you were diagnosed with clinical depression then you will need medication to regulate the neurochemicals. However, depending on the severity of your depression there may be ways you can beat it without meds.
1. Plenty of cardiovascular activity- it releases endorphins
2. Proper nutrition
3. Vitamin B12
4. Omega 4 fatty acids
5. Laughter- funny movies, comedy, sitcoms etc.
4. Dancing-crank up your favorite upbeat music and dance. Dance some more. Invite some friends over, put out some appetizers and dance. Go clubbing with your friends and dance. When you are dancing you can never be depressed. It releases more endorphins.
5. Yoga and meditation-frees the mind of clutter
6. Improve your spiritual life-click my website below
7. Volunteer your time to helping someone in need. It doesn't have to be huge but in some small way. This takes the focus off of you and it makes you appreciate your life more. It brings joy and happiness into your life and to others.
I hope all or some of these can help you to cope better with your depression. Best to you.

A. Get out of bed everyday and try to live and operate as if you were not depressed.
B. Read a book called "Feeling Good" written by a Dr Burns. You will need to be discerning, it does have some techniques in it that I have found useful.
Depression has a circular component to it that causes thought patterns that are not true about you. These lies about self need to be identified and exposed and corrected. Depression causes thought patterns that feed the depression and make it worse. If you break the cycle the depresion gets better.
C. Lastly if you need to get back on meds to be well do so.

Eat healthy, exercise regularly, socialize, maybe try Omega 3 fish oil pills. If that doesn't work, get a therapist. If that doesn't do it, add meds. If you choose not to, then don't complain about it. Sorry to be blunt, but while saying you don't want to see a therapist or take meds, you asked what's my history. I've been slipping in and out of depression since I was about 10. I am bipolar, 44, med compliant, see a therapist, fork out cash my insurance doesn't cover, do absolutely everything that I can... and I still battle depression or dysthymia most of the time (and I get miserable mixed states instead of a happy mania). Someone who can work their issues out with a therapist or take one single pill and feel consistently better, I'll be damned if I can understand why you wouldn't do it. I'd give anything to have that choice.

I normally find that depression is cyclical. The peaks and troughs of our emotions do indeed plunge us into depressions and, if you are in a job or profession where you have a very public face, it is even harder to climb out of the 'slough of despond' as you are forced to put a false front on to convince others that you are alright. You are right though, medication is not the answer. It is just a tempoorary substitute that does not really address the issue at hand that may have led you into a depression. What works for me is to take time for myself - lock the door, put on some light music, and spend some time in private prayer or meditation. This help you re-centre and re-focus. If you have an understanding partner, they can also help by just letting you get everything out of your system and loving you regardless.

(((Sam))) I have before but it was a while back and I think I never really got out of it before I had slipped back in. (There was a certain name for the depression I had and that was the pattern it took on...if I remember it I will let you know!) I was also affected by the seasons and had SAD (seasonal affective disorder) --knowing where you live I am going to guess you might have that or it might just be making things worse for you.
Eventually I got out of my depression but it's a whole long story and I don't really have a cure. Do you think maybe it is just Ramadan...the different hours...different sleeping/eating pattern...that along with the start of school could be messing with your hormones.
Remember the other health issues we have talked about? It may be related to that too.
I am thinking of you dear!

If you have had an mood change, after being on meds before You my have to accept that you may still have an imbalance and need it fixed. Depression will send you down and fast. One day you'll be not great, but OK, and the next you'll be crying all day and cannot get out of bed.

Yes I did after I stopped taking medication (there was a medical reason to stop).
Even if you cannot be bothered now still go and take the medication as it is the depression that makes y like this. After awhile when you are getting better you'll feel like taking the meds again.

If the depression was caused by a chemical imbalance, then yes, it can come back if you stop the meds.
