Mormons believe Jesus is the Saviour of our Lord, Muslims believe he was a prophet, but not divine.
Mormons believe in the Bible, Muslims have the Torah.
Mormons don't believe in jihad.
That being said, there are some similarities, but Mormons are Christians and therefore have as much in common with Muslims as all other Christians do. However, Christianity, Muslims, and Judaism all go back to the Prophet Abraham.
There are no child brides in the LDS church. You're confused with the fundamentalist religions which are like calling the taliban the same as mainstream muslim or KKK the same as the Lutheran or Methodist churches.
Plural Marriages haven't existed in the LDS church for 100 years.
Women are encouraged and are told by several leaders that its just or more so important that they get educated than the men. LDS leaders also stress that men should not be domineering towards their wives. There are many LDS women who work outside the homes, and Utah was one of the first places to allow women to vote.

To say Mormons and Muslims are related because of a few common beliefs makes about as much sense as saying a carrot and a nerf dart are related because they're both orange. Yeah they have a couple traites in common, but they're really not the same at all.
I've heard this before.
The LDS church didn't branch from Islam. The best you can argue is that the church branched from Christianity. (Mormons will deny that, but whatever). I don't even know if Joseph Smith knew anything about Islam. He certainly didn't practice it at any time in his life.
But whatever. You don't give a damn about us anyway. I mean, what caring Chrisitan goes out an destroys other people's faith without giving an alternative? But I guess like all Christians, you don't care what's right, so long as everyone knows Mormons are wrong.
PS- Salt lake is actually a place of exile for the saints. So it's not even close to being what Mecca is to Muslims.

Well, each was founded by a "prophet" who received the "final" revelation from God, which only the prophet and a few close friends were allowed to see. Each one borrows from the Bible and will quote scripture at you from the Bible, but both declare the Bible to be incomplete and corrupted. There are some major differences between them, though - Muslims believe in one God, the living God, holy and unique. Mormons, on the other hand, believe in the living God and a host of others, including themselves eventually. Also a Spirit Mother, because as a Mormon said to me recently "if we need a woman, why wouldn't God?" They also believe in baptising the dead and wearing sacred longjohns to keep them pure.
I'm a Baptist, but I'll take the Muslims anytime.
"Like ALL CHRISTIANS?" Hey, Lex, I thought Mormons were Christians too. Freudian slip there?

Actually, there was a recent article in the Ensign, a magazine of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, that describes some of the commonalities between our faiths. Perhaps you'll find the article interesting.
EDIT: I did a search and found some articles you might be interested in:

Maybe the Mormon founder liked Islam.
Many Mormons claim lineage from Ishmael.

Maybe!

Because one is the true Church of Jesus Christ and the other isn't maybe you can figure out which one by looking at the true name of the Church to figure out which one it is.

MMmmmmmmmmm...we aren't.
Where do you find all your lies? Never mind don't tell me. I don't want to expose myself to that much hatred.
I don't see Jesus at church. Although I often feel the Holy Ghost. Why don't you go to church tomorrow and feel it too?
