when you are testing your vision acuity, are you allowed to wear your glasses/contacts? or do you need to take them off?

and after basic training, are you allowed to wear contacts?

I am currently enlisted, and you do the vision tests without glasses or contacts, to see where you are for uncorrected sight. During basic, you get issued (if you need them) very ugly glasses nicknamed BCGs, Birth Control Glasses. After Basic, you can wear almost any style of glasses that you want to and you can wear contacts if you choose to, though not recommended if you get sent to the desert for a deployment since contacts dry out and you might not have access to any kind of cleaning solution.

Yes. You can wear glasses or contacts. You will be tested without them and with them. Here's the standards for correct vision:
20/20 in the better eye, 20/400 in the other.
20/30 in the better eye, 20/100 in the other.
20/40 in the better eye, 20/70 in the other.
Refractive error cannot exceed plus or minus 8.00 diopters. That last one is waiverable. You can wear your contacts after basic.

This was 25 years ago but for some odd reason they didn't let me go straight infantry because of my glasses. My brother went mechanized infantry with glasses so I wouldn't believe anything anybody says about it. Many people in the infantry wear or at least wore glasses. They will no doubt check your eyes without to see if you need them.

You wear them for the eye test. The army cares about your corrected vision.

you would be required to grant an entire medical history. there's no reason to maintain the 2d surgical treatment secret. A dishonorable discharge is given for terribly severe criminal interest. it does no longer prepare right here. in case you saved important medical history secret, you may get an administrative discharge. Even a undesirable habit discharge may be maximum unlikely. i'm retired from the army.

well, i suggest taking them off so that your vision is blurry, so then when you are shooting at people, you won't really have to see them die.
