This is so interesting. It is obvious that we are in many respects like animals. We need to feed and we are driven to have sex. We also have higher level of feelings such as love, which by the way, has been associated with the presence of some chemicals, not the same ones as for sex. If we want to be in accord with God, we need to be in accord with the laws of nature, and all these things are part of nature. The key word here is balance. All of this needs to be properly balanced, harmoniously put together. Rented or not, this body has some rules and we cannot deny them.
Do I believe the body is rental? I cannot believe in something that I don't understand. I don't understand this concept of soul which would still exist after my body is dead. The problem is that science has not located this reality. I am not against it. I don't think it is ridiculous, not at all. I wish scientists would try more to extend and use their models to locate the subjective aspect of life at a deeper level than just the neurological level in the brain. Nowadays, all the research on thoughts, feelings, etc. are at that level. Obviously, with that view of our thoughts, feelings, etc. it all disappears when we die.

No I don't think our bodies are rentals as we are made in the image of God and our bodies are our temples. The Lord made us this way to enjoy our humanness with all it's flaws. He also made our bodies for pleasure too but how and with whom we do this is our decision but not necessarily the right one. As far as the soul...that is what leaves our body when we die. It will go to Heaven or Hell and we will get a whole new body when the Lord returns. One in His likeness. Resting within our souls is the love of Jesus, the compassion, the obedience and the Holy Spirit which makes us stop and think of what we are saying or doing wrong. It's like an inner -voice to keep us from sin, even though we all fall short of the glory of God. When you possess a soul.......it should belong to God but Satan too often possesses it too. If we let Satan rule our soul.....then we are lost forever. The soul that is the Lord's is actually the Holy Spirit that dwells within and is Jesus too. Some describe the soul as a heart. It rests in there and is what keeps us as one with Jesus. God made us physical creatures to enjoy pleasure. He also gave us a will to do right or wrong. Our soul leaves the body after death immediately.

All I know is I have to do something different in my body. Yea. I don't lie, or cheat, or steal, but I smoke and drink wine. So, does that make me better than the gal I know that is kicking heroin right now? Not sure. When the Holy Spirit hooked up with me, he knew what the gig was. I am what I am. Getting better. Getting right. Slowly. I never judge. What is the soul? The most important part of you existence. The soul will enlist the aid of your body to get the attention of your mind. Your mind and heart deceives you, but your soul never does.

The point of being a Gnostic is to realize that the human body is more like a prison, meant to keep you here. All of histories greatest thinkers knew this, from Mahatma Ghandi to Shakespear, from Socrates to Leonardo da Vinci. Here is what Albert Einstein had to say:
- A human being is part of the whole called by us universe, a part limited in time and space. We experience ourselves, our thoughts and feelings as something separate from the rest. A kind of optical delusion of consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from the prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty. The true value of a human being is determined by the measure and the sense in which they have obtained liberation from individual-self. (Albert Einstein, 1954)
Thomas 47:56 - Jesus said, ” whoever has come to know the world has discovered a carcass, and whoever has discovered a carcass, of that person the world-body is not worthy.”

Yes. Our bodies are our tool for our spirits to travel in. Like a car it takes us where we need to go, but one day our car will stop running and we will get out of it. Our body feels physical pleasures, and pain. Our mind does our thinking, but our souls, or spirits is what feels emotion.

The soul is an imaginary thing used to anthropomorphize our thought processes.
Because we can not understand our brains and how they work we create a ghost-in-the-machine. A thing to tell our brains how to work.
Back when the concept of a soul was created we did not even understand that it was our brains that did our thinking for us.
Now we understand that the brain is an incredibly complex analog computer, creating complex interconnected neural networks that allow us to control our bodies, receive sensory input and have sentient thought.
If you want to claim that there is a soul then provide some evidence to support your hypothesis.

Good question. Yes, I not only believe, but I am sure our body is like "rentals". Absolutely, they are tools for our spiritual growth in this world. Our bodily pleasures are not trivial and empty, though. They are good for our spirit as well. Soul is the name we give to our spirit when incarnated. After death, they are just spirits.
Audrey Hepburn, when approaching death, said: "I am not afraid of dying, because my body is like a car. I drove it, it is broken, I will get rid of it and get a new one".
We are not our body. We are our spirit. We are not what we see, because this is temporary. We are what we don't see, which is eternal. Spirit is linked to body to progress through several experiences in life. After the mission is completed, the spirit disconnect and goes back to the spiritual world.
Peace!

our bodies are filled with chemicals that can't even begin to be fully recreated in a lab and that is where our emotions come from. what i believe is that our souls are the deepest things we feel and if you do right by your conscience, you will live on in a better more glorious state, but if you have to learn more about what is right and just, you will return in the form and situation most suited to the lesson(s) that you need to learn

The Philistines persecuted Isaac because they envied his growing prosperity. Rachel was jealous of her sister’s fruitfulness in childbearing. Jacob’s sons were jealous of the favor shown toward their younger brother Joseph. Miriam evidently was jealous of her non-Israelite sister-in-law. Korah, Dathan, and Abiram enviously formed a conspiracy against Moses and Aaron. King Saul became jealous of the military successes of David.

our bodies are instruments. Like a vessel where the soul resides. We need our bodies to perform, feel and experience what the soul can not. Physical pleasures are one of the experiences we create and desire. There is nothing empty about it. To experience joy, happiness, pain, sorrow, etc.. is all what life is about. Thru experience comes knowledge. And knowledge is power.
The soul is what makes you unique. It gathers all information and data. And it will guide you to where you need to go and what you need to do in order to get where you need to be.
