I just got Dish network and I'm trying to find a way to connect it to my surround sound using the coaxial cables. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry about the typo but all I have to connect my surround sound to is the coaxial cable because the box is in another room.

I think what your trying to do is not exactly clear. It would have helped if you put the exact model number of the equipment you want to connect to one another and what you are trying to connect like just the sound, just the video, both and whether your connecting digital or analog sound. Please provide as much details as possible for a proper response otherwise people are guessing as to what you actually want to do...

sorry but i must put donw the guy with 40 years of a/v experience you can run any type of signal over coax, the construction of the cable is the same as a normal a/v cable there are two conductive surfaces, one center couductor that is the positve side, and on outside conductor that serves as the negative and a shield for the positive signal.

if you can figure out what output to use to get the surround sound in the second zone off of the sat. reciever, you will just need a F-connector to RCA adapter that can be purchased at radio shack, or other electronics parts stores. i have done something like tins for multiple audio sysems in the past and have had no problem with doing so

Best thing would be to put the Dish receiver in that room. Otherwise you have to run the audio out from the tv to the surround receiver, but's that will only get you pro logic nothing digital.

Coax signals are RF modulated (you see them in Ch 3 or Ch 4) and the LEAST recommended to watch TV.

Your Dish network box will have RCA audio and maybe s/spdif digital audio outputs. Connect those to your surround system.

Then connect (in order of preference) HDMI or component or s-video or composite or RF video to your TV.

pretty sure they are different signals and would require an external conversion box more than just a cable conversion. Not absolutely sure, but it makes sense since the Coax is probably at RF levels and frequency and the AV stuff is demodulated video and Audio.

the box in the other room is key here.
you can run the cable through an old vcr first coax in to vcr coax out of vcr to tv. rca out of vcr to surround sound system.not as good as optical but it will work
iam assuming you know to put the vcr on ch3

You need an "RF modulator" you can pick one up at wal mart for about 25-30 dollars. radio shack, circuit city, best buy, they all have them. They get pricey when the get more inputs and outputs. Good luck.
