The divorce rate in the US is 50%, and I attribute that to males and females going around too much (you know what I mean). Anyway, I don't see why people need to be religious, whether Jewish, Christian, or Muslim, in order to stop doing it. People should just become moral because it is the right thing to do, and not because some God dictates. Agree? Any further input?

Set: The US is run based on a secular agenda, and look what type of stuff shows up on television. Not too moral...

Who says? What authority says that anything is the right thing to do? Since you don't believe in God, then what you probably mean is that if it makes you feel good, then it must be right.
A feeling has no moral authority behind it.

As opposed to what? What religious state in the world is more "moral" than America? And how is divorce immoral? People get married, maybe have offspring and then divorce. I missed the immoral part in there.

Well, you would need to ask whose morals do we live by? Each of us have our own set of morals within us. (Our conscience) Some may feel it is okay to download music, some think it is stealing,...Jeffrey Dahmer thought that it was okay to murder,...there are so many mentally ill individuals out there that have their own mindset on what is moral, as well. Pretty scary, if you ask me! Islam says it is okay to kill others who are not your faith, Christians believe we are to love them no matter what. If you were trying to build a house, how would it turn out if every man on the job was using a different sized measuring tape, but all of them claimed to be using the correct standard one? It would be a pretty messed up home! Without a standard and a higher power to draw the line and show us where it is, we only live in our own man made world of chaos. People are "religious" because there is a God out there that did create us, (most all religions believe that) and we were created to be with Him. We have a natural inclination to Him. When He is not in our lives, we find that we experience that "something is missing" feeling. Even very wealthy individuals who appear to have it all, are missing that meaning and worth in their life. Suicide is more rampant with every passing day. (The statistics can be googled) The more we rid ourselves of God, the worse it gets. God is out there and He has marvelous plans for us. Not just here, but for eternity. Even if someone is "moral" they can still slip up for whatever reason and go outside a marriage. How do they know they are not supposed to do that? We have a natural drive towards our lusts so why is following them wrong? Most of the time we do not understand what we do. What we want to do, we do not do, but what we hate, we do! God knows that we have this struggle. He knows every time we miss that mark that we are aiming for. No, I do not feel that we should be moral because some god dictates it. There is only one true God, and if you search for Him, He will gather you to Himself. Our creator has placed us on this crazy earth. He is screaming for our attention. Look around at the designs in nature, and how wonderfully you are made,...There is so much order and design genius in our world. He is the only one that created everything and the reason all things exist. He sent His son, Christ Jesus to proclaim Him, and take the punishment for us missing that mark of morale that he has written in our hearts. He is not a dictator, but he does set a punishment for those who deny Him. That is only so we know the seriousness of how wrong we are. He did tell us not to run around. The result,...std's and divorce and rising suicide in our children. He created us, He knows how our minds think and work, He knows how our bodies function, He knows what is best for us. Nobody is good, let alone good enough to set standards for all to live by. What are morals?

The religious often argue that it is not about being moral as such, it is about even knowing what is moral or immoral. They have a hard time with ethics without an objective standard from their text.

I agree and believe that most atheists are moral for morality's sake. If a theist is moral it's only because of fear of punishment or desire for a reward.
