I have a 6 month old shih tzu and she does not shed at all! I was amazed because I have a cat that sheds everywhere! My puppy's hair is fairly long too....but no shedding!

It's ok to get a mix, only problem is that you will not be assured that it won't shed. I do not understand why you do not support breeders--there are many reputable and responsible breeders around. What you should be wary of are the backyard breeders and puppy mills. Poodles and Maltese are the only breeds that truly do not shed. I have had both breeds for the past 20 years. You could also check your local animal rescue for these purebreds, but do your homework. I know of others who have adopted rescues only to find themselves spending thousands of dollars in medical bills. Good luck!

No offense to anyone answering who breeds these- but steer clear of the new "Designer Dogs". I have seen so many that have health issues, skin issues, and coat issues. I personally don't believe in all this intermingling of dog genes to sell them for an astronomical price by stating they are non-shedding, and therefore, hypoallergenic. Unless these dogs live in a bubble and never step foot outside- they are just at much at rish ofr outside contamination as any other pet. The non-shedding term is false- go brush a poodle and you will come away with a brush with dead hair on it. They DO shed, just not in clumps like some other breeds. Scheduled groomings are essential...as the hair that is shed remains under the outer coat and can cause some serious mats and irritation.

if you dont want to support a breeder, then look into rescue. Im sure you could easily find a cute black mixed breed that doesnt shed. Look for an adult so you know what its coat is already like.
try www.petfinder.com
by the way, black dogs need homes more than any other color! People just prefer white and other colors over black.

I HAVE THE SOLUTION!!!!
Poodle, all the way! Simply go to petfinder.com, type in breed, age, size, and your area, and a bunch of poodles for adoption will show up. Poodles come in colors; apricot, white, cream, gray, and, of course, black.
Sometimes poodles mate with bichons, resulting in bichipoos, whether or not the breeding was intentional. If you find a bichipoo that would be fine for you, as bichons do not shed either. You should find plenty of purebreds and mixes alike.
If you don't mind getting a nonblack dog, try a bichon (from small paws rescue), a shih tzu, a maltese, a kerry blue terrier, a cairn terrier, a norfolk terrier, or a norwich terrier--all a few clicks away at petfinder.com!
Thanx for choosing adoption!

There are tons of poodle mixes out there now. I'm sure you can find some in shelters because they've boomed in popularity and when there's an increase in popularity of breeds, there's always people who aren't responsible enough to keep it beyond it's puppy years. These mixes are non-shedding. Be warned, Poodles have a lot of energy and require firm training but are extremely intelligent. Just have your wits about you.

Some may shed less than others but, all dogs shed. Get a stuffed one and you will only have to dust it. Oh and anyone that has puppies had to breed them so if you get a mix its still a breeder just a disreputable one.

I had a maltese westie cross names Kallie. She didn't shed at all, and was all little and cute, all white and fluffy. They're really a great breed, very sweet, cuddley and loving, quiet, friendly, and smart. They are also a low-allergenic dog. I would highly recommend this breed.

I had a mixed Schnauzer and Labrabdor. He was black with a white spot on his chest. I had no problem with him shedding. And he was small and very loyal to just me. And very quick to learn. He was a 'give me' at a WalMart parking lot.
