atheists, how do you know god doesnt exist?

just cause there is no proof that doesnt mean its false. if you steal something from a store, and there arent any cameras around, there is no proof that you stole it, however that doesnt mean you didnt

and for you christians, how exactly do you know god does exist?

you could believe that the moon is made of cheese, and if you go there, bring back a piece and try to eat it, youll realize that it isnt so believing hard enough doesnt mean that you know

and if faith doesnt mean believing without proof then what does it mean?

Yes I am trying to kill two birds with one stone and you need to stop saying that you "know" god exists or not but rather that you "believe".

Okay for those of you(in this case several), Im not trying to convince you that god does or doesnt exist, but instead that you BELIEVE and not KNOW that he does or doesnt.

No, I won't stop saying I know God exists. Just because you don't know doesn't mean nobody else does.

I tend to be on the side of athiesm and have been for the majority of my life but that doesn't mean I can rule out God because there is no theory as to what happened before the big bang. That's why I hate when people feel so strongly one way or another. But I certainly do not believe in God the way the bible or other religions define it.

Religion was the simple explanation for describing the world around us. It was much easier to say God created an earth quake than a fault shift. In modern times we have a lot of science to explain these occurances and that is why most scientists, if not all, are atheist.

Someone mentioned that a primordial ooze could not morp into man, that it was proven to be impossible. But I don't know of any scientific claim that we morphed from ooze. We have a lot of evidence supporting Darwin's theory of evolution. But there's really no smoking gun. The closest we got was the finding of Lucy. But you can clearly see with many animals how they evolve through time based on fossil evidence. So if anything, God as the bible defines him, is impossible. But maybe something so great and beyond my understanding created the beginning of time.

I also want to add that I am against religion because it seems to be a catalyst for wars. I think man needs to be more unified and science will be the only thing protecting our species from what is to come. If too much energy is spent on the promise of God or 2nd coming of Christ, who is going to stop an asteroid from ending all of man kind.

Here is the answer. you will never know. Out of everyhuman being that has lived on earth, not one knew for sure what happens after death. When humans don't understand something they fill in the gap with there imagination. There may be a toaster revolving around jupiter right now, but no one can prove or disprove that statement. Don't forget youre just an animal with big thoughts, just because were the smartest animals on the planet doesn't mean were the peak of intelligent thinking. Face it , our little brains can't grasp the concept of begining or end. Just live life, and wait till you die to dicover the truth.

How do you know that Santa Claus doesn't exist? How do you know "god" isn't quite literally a floating being made of spaghetti?

When there is no proof, there is no need to believe it's true. I don't believe people around me are shop-lifters for the same reason. SheSul, I've seen many internal organs, and the existence of internal organs is medical fact, it's got nothing to do with feeling a beating in your chest.

Suspendor of Disbelief, is that supposed to be an argument? Please.

Well, I don't know, which is why I'm agnostic. If Jesus ever appears by my bed side, maybe I'll consider becoming Cristian (either that or see a psychiatrist). I think people who are really religious tend to be quite narrow minded, but so do atheists. I don't believe in God because there's no proof - but I'm also not going to say there is no God because, like you say, there's no proof of that either.

properly you should look at background and latest. Has god ever regarded... no. Is there any evidence that god particularly exists... no. i comprehend you will in all probability say that the Bible is historic prof that God exists in spite of the undeniable fact that it is not.. A fictional selection of information isn't any prof of supernatural beings. basic answer, i comprehend God would not exist via fact there is not any evidence he does. very similar to different fictional characters like Dragons, i comprehend they don't exists via fact there is not any evidence. The default stance on each and every thing isn't any evidence, not authentic.

I Know the Field of Potential exists; I can't say the same about the existence of the Christian God.

I couldn't believe in god even if I wanted to. My brain doesn't work that way. I can't rap my head around that idea without thinking it's just silly. How do I know this? It's all in my gut. You could come up with all the evidence in the world to prove that a god exists and I still wouldn't be able to believe in him.

I'm not saying that god does not exist. In fact, it is absurd to say there is "proof" that he doesn't exist. Becoming an atheist is the inevitable conclusion from the analysis of our understanding of the world, life, and the universe. There is absence of evidence, which, in fact, is evidence of absence. Why do we not believe in unicorns? Because no one has ever seen one, we have no fossils, etc and absolutely no evdience for one existing. Our conclusion? Unicorns are imaginary. The same goes for god. You can safely say there is no god from a lack of evidence, not proof.

I don't "know" that there are no gremlins, leprechauns, bogeymen, and so on. But I have a pretty good idea, and the evidence against the possibility that these things exist is overwhelming. The probability of there being no such things as gremlins is so great that I don't consider them worth thinking about. If you ask me if I "know" there are no gremlins I would say, "Yes," even though I have no concrete proof they don't exist. So I'm as "agnostic" about God as I am about gremlins.

How do you know that Genghis Khan is not resurrected and living as a bum on the beach in Key Largo? How do you know ANYTHING? The point is that by ANY standard of evidence that applies to knowing anything there is no evidence for god. And this is moreover generally admitted by all churches and all serious thinkers, that there is NO rational basis for theism, only FAITH.
