Rottweilers are a multi purpose dog. One of their original functions was to guard and herd cattle.
They are named for a town in Germany called Rottweil.
They were commonly referred to as the butcher's dog because they pulled the meat cart around the village.

Beagles are prone to reverse sneezing which sounds like they are choking and can't breath for short periods of time..

Mine is like a mix between these two video's.. starts off like the second, but ends like the first..
and Schnauzers.. gods, what about them.. hmmm.. they are known as the dog with the human brain.. (the standards are anyway..)
http://www.standard-schnauzer.com/
oh.. and despite claims to the contrary the sizes are not exactly different breeds.. a miniature can have a standard pup, although, not easily, and a giant can have a mini pup..
They do not qualify for show, because the parents are a different standard then them, but, it's not uncommon.

Shih Tzus are low shedding.
I know all you thumbs down monkeys on the dogs section are against pure bred dogs. I understand. But some people have special circumstances for owning pure breeds. One of my dogs was on her way to the pound because her owner didn't have time for her. The other, my neighbors in law inherited a dog and didn't want him. He was just going to drop him off in the country somewhere. My neighbor, dog lover too, immediately thought I might give the little guy a home. I did, and I'm not sorry. They are both fixed even though they have papers. I saved my dogs form a certain death. I also adopted my cats from a shelter.

Pembroke Welsh Corgi
Okay, this isn't a fact obviously, but it is cute. There's a story that corgis used to be steeds for fairies. One night two children were out with their father looking for their best ewe. The children came upon two fairies that had been hurt when they brushed up against steel (deadly to fairies). The children pulled the steel trap away from the fairies and made a healing compress for them. The queen fairy was so grateful for them that she gave them two corgi puppies to keep their father's sheep from getting lost and that's how we came to have corgis.
As for a fact, some people are surprised that corgis are herding dogs. They have short legs so that if a cow kicks out at them, they can easily duck under the leg and nip the heel of the leg that isn't kicking out.

Wow this one made me think. I guess it's that Saints never did carry a barrel of whiskey around their necks when rescuing stranded travelers in the mountains. An artist painted a picture of a Saint and added it to enhance the photo. Yet, years later people still think they did. Also the name of the most famous Saint was Barry.

German Shepherds,, A lot of the American Show line GSD's have longer tails than the German, Czech and Slovak line GSD's. Oh, and it is a myth that the American line GSD's are more prone to hip dysplasia than the others, like the German breeders say!! Angulation has nothing to do with HD!

Bernese like to sit on people's feet
Samoyeds are softer if you pet them backwards (against the natural grain of the coat so you feel the undercoat)
