All dogs bark and all dogs should get alot of excercise. But your best bet is probably a small dog. Like a Yorkie... Schiz zu, Beagle, Bull Dog~!

I'm a dachshund breeder. And doxies are great with kids, but are barkers, chewers and diggers, so it's not a good choice.
I'm also a dog groomer and the breed that I have become enamored with is the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. They are even tempered, unlike American or English cockers, low maintence with regular brushing and clipping, can even be stripped down to reduce brushing and shedding, and are generally easily trained. Take any breed you choose to a reputable dog training class that includes your family and learn how to crate train, house break and puppy proof your home before bringing the wee one home. And please try to wait until your kids are old enough to
understand it is a dog and needs to be treated respectfully so. Best of luck

Well, the no shedding factor takes out a lot of breeds. A good family no-shed dog would be a poodle. If you don't like poodles, you can consider a labrodoodle which is a labrador poodle mix. Labs are wonderful family dogs, but need exersize. If you want a smaller house dog, A maltese-poodle mix is great for a dog who doesn't need much exersize, but will tend to bark more. Unfortunatley you can't find the PERFECT dog, but their unique personalities and loveable-ness will make up for it :) My dog sheds like there's no tomorrow, but me and my mom forgive her because we love her so much. Good luck with your new dog!!!! :D

Irish Wolf Hound
The Irish Wolfhound is known for his extremely loyal and gentle temperament. Born with a very strong desire to please his owner, he is an excellent companion animal and, while not suited for employ as a guard or attack dog, he is very willing to help you hold down the sofa or hog the bed. Important to note, however, is that the Irish Wolfhound is notorious for remaining a puppy, well into his first to second year and, considering these puppies can easily reach 100 pounds, obedience training is essential.

Rescue a mature pit bull. You will be doing them such a favor! They are very sweet dogs, and are EXCELLENT with children and strangers! (NO CHILD SHOULD BE LEFT ALONE WITH ANY BREED OF DOG. PERIOD.) Also, mature pitties require less exercise, and their short coats do not tend to shed as much as, say, labs. Another good choice would be a great dane. They are usually very mellow, and don't shed much, but are great with kids.

Personally I think getting a small to medium sized dog from your local Humane Society would be your best pick. The people who work there know the dogs attitude and personality. At least the one near me does. We have gotten our two cats and our two dogs from our local Humane Society and all animals are excellent. As for breed, tell them what you are looking for and they can probably pick you out a wonderful dog. Yes it might be a mutt but those, personally, are the best. Good luck in picking out a pet.

Hmm.. how determined are you to get a minimal shedder?
Maybe a pug would suit you. They need enough exercise to keep them at a healthy weight though. (There aren't many dogs who don't need at least one 30 minute walk per day.) Pugs have great temperaments though and they're reliable with children.

A boxer is very good with people and really smart and easy to train. You could also go with Labs, goldens, or shepards. They are smart and very personable.
