had a neighbor of a family member, in the country, in PA shooting cats with a .22 cal. the police were called and the basic response was it's the country and shooting of cats was not a big enough deal for them to get involved since no person, car or house was hit. i took care of the problem by calmly explaining to the neighbor, that the person in the house was old and really liked her cats and if i heard of anyone shooting or even aiming a gun at her property again i would return fire and i do not miss at these distances. it is a shame that i had to deal with it myself but we never had a problem with the neighbors again, and the cat only worries about a fox once in a while

I hope the wa**er who did this rots in jail (will prob only get a slap on the wrist and told not to do it again). These are the same people who think its funny to strap a firework to a cat or through a cat in the bonfire (was on the news in Ireland last year (i think it was last year) that a cat was thrown on a bonfire and actually survived but with major burns) or kick a cat to death. These same people are probably capable of shooting or stabbing a person.

No it isn't, but it should be. My ideal solution is to find the *ssh*le shooting them and blast them with a good load of birdshot, but the cops frown on that. A lot of people do this kind of thing; it's sickening. Your best bet is to keep your cats indoors, and keep an eye on what goes on in your neighborhood. I hate to stereotype, but most often this happens when packs of young teenagers roam the neighborhoods looking for animals to shoot with their spiffy new toys. If you spot someone abusing animals in your neighborhood, report them to the ASPCA and to the police. And you might get together with some neighbors and form some sort of community watch program to monitor the neighborhood's pets (and children). I've heard of this being done in other neighborhoods and it has been very effective.

It is not a felony in many cases. At worst it's a misdemeanor. I don't let my cats outside. In most cases, if the animal isn't on your property at the time of the shooting, you have little recourse particularly if your city has a feline leash law as mine does.

With a 1000fps air rifle (i'm assuming .177 cal) it interior reason in all probability capturing on the cats might kill them, however if not in the present day. Air rifles delivering in this selection are used to seek rabbits, and a cat isn't plenty extra beneficial then a wild hare. to respond to the 2nd area of your query, definite it fairly is illegitimate. Cats and canines are taken care of otherwise then maximum wild existence interest. Cats are actually not interest, they are seen pets, and capturing at one might score you a important flow to from the ASCPA/Police branch. Animal abuse is a variety A misdemeanor, or each and every now and then (and this might qualify as certainly one of them) a criminal. each and every state has a different regulation as to no count if it a misdemeanor or criminal (in Maryland its a criminal to illustrate), in spite of the undeniable fact that it is not uncommon for them to cost as a criminal if there is sufficient evidence of malicious purpose. base line- do not do it. i'm thinking approximately searching, and accomplish that myself, yet cats are not interest to be hunted however in the event that they are stressful. in case you do suspect that your neighbor's cat dependancy has gotten out of hand, and is growing to be a public risk, then you are able to call the police your self and report the priority which will in all probability effect is a call on your want extra in all probability so then capturing on the cats, which will maximum in all probability not flow so strongly on your want.

Not sure where you are, but I know that is at least a misdemeanor in California. It is Cruelty to animals and should not be legal anywhere. If you know who did it and there is a witness or if that person admits to it thinking that they can do as they wish to animals on their property, I do believe you can have them arrested... definitely sue for the vet bill.
Sorry that this happened to your cat.

Yes it is it is a class c felony in most states. I'm not sure if it is in your state because every state has different laws and punishments for certain crimes. I do hope the a**hole that shot your cat goes to jail.

I don't know but I hope it is! For some reason, some people think it's funny to hurt cats. These same people think dog fighting is cruel (and it IS).
If you don't like cats, leave them alone. It's not cool to hurt something just because YOU don't like it. That just makes you cruel not cool.

my husbands dog was killed by being shot by a pellet gun. He had to dig him out of someones trash can and burry him.
after reporting it to the police they found the person who did it. That person was forced to pay a 500 dollar fine and i think that was about it.
14 years of companion ship lost by one guy who thinks it's fun to shoot neighborhood dogs.
