Whats the highest grain bullet I can get for a 30/30 winchester rifle, 9mm handgun, and a .40 S&W? And for the rifle question.. I'm looking at the ruger m77 compact rifle. I want one in .308 but the sporting goods store i go to only has the .243 version.. Would this be just as good for deer? This is the only rifle store i can go to so going anywhere else isn't going to happen.

The heaviest factory load for .30-30 is the 170 gr. round nose. I suppose you could load a 220 gr. roundnose if you load your own.
There is a 200 gr. Hornady XTP for .40 S & W.
147 gr. Hornady XTP is biggest for 9 mm.
The .243 would be allright for deer, but if I wanted a.308, I would have them order one.

You can go to Midway USA and see just about everything available on the bullet market.

Did you ask the sporting goods store if they would order you a .308?

You are really 'painting yourself in a corner' if you limit yourself to what is on the shelf in only one store.......

the 243 for military marksman unfair to deer with mis hit it is to light a load limited velocity a glorified toy gun you could load your own rounds but use caution use the highest velocity you can handle with one hundred percent accuracy be fair to the prey 2 shots is one to many it seems you may be a young inexperienced man try accuracy first then arm yourself according to your ability the simple way perfect practice makes perfect spend time at the range with crosswinds upwinds rain down wind please do not be offended by these remarks take your time there is no rush the skill factor is most important plus this rifle costs to much and is not the most weather accomdating rifle cheaper more accurate out there do not get impatient think of the money you will save
