What relationship do you imagine that your cat thinks s/he has with you? I've been thinking about this a lot lately and wondering how my cat perceives me. My sister think her cat things that she is the cat's mother. I don't think my cat thinks that. I think my cat thinks I'm a furless alien to be dominated, but I'm wondering how others imagine their cats perceiving them...

Very interesting question. And I think you will get answers as varied as there are species of cat! To my way of thinking, and as a long time cat owner, I think a lot of it has to do with when you get your cat. I found my cat Finnegan, as a baby kitty of about 7weeks old. He had been abandoned in the mountains and I thought he was a little white bunny! Needless to say, he's been my "baby" ever since, and he's 11 months old and 16lbs. He and I are very close, since we spend so much time together. He will come when I call him and I talk to him all the time. He comforts me when I've been sad and lonely, and makes me laugh so hard with some of the antics he does. I love him very much and my life is so enriched by my furry friend! =^.^=

I have 2 cats who are brothers too. One is really affectionate and really seeks attention all the time although he is an adult now. When he was a kitten I really did think that he thought of me as his mother.
His sibling (born the same day) is more independent and less affectionate but also a very nice fellow.
Neither of them have ever been nasty, scratching people..etc..
They just have a slightly different personality.......
No..I certainly do feel that - contrary to popular belief - that I am just their slave.
They seek my attention, they like being near me, they want affection from me..not just food and shelter.

By the way.....those 2 are ginger cats. Have heard that ginger cats were the easier ones to get on with.

I had two before also but unfortunately had to give them away due to special circumstances. One was ginger too and a big fluffy loving cat who thought that my knees belonged to him:-). The other one was a black female...but kind of aloof..

I use to think that my cat didn't give a flying watusi about me, as long as I fed and patted him everything was fine.

UNTILL he got sick and nearly died and I saw the way he was when I went to pick him up from the vet. He had tried to take the vet out and the vet told me to get him out of the cage, ha I thought, He will just try to use me as a scratching pole!

But NO, he heard my voice before he saw me and the hackles went down and the ears came up and he started mewing for me!

I love my cat more than ever now, and I know he loves me as his protector and friend :)

My cat is my buddy. We do so much together. He rides in the car with me, he takes showers with me(yes, he loves water), he sleeps with me. I think that he views me as his mom. We have been buds since he wsa just a kitten. He also loves to snuggle. He will follow me around the house, looking up at me and meowing. He talks a lot. He even sits on the counter while I do the dishes. He is my best friend. He is also very, very protective of me. If its just me and him sitting on the bed, and my husband or a friend comes in, he will hiss and growl unless he knows that i give permission.

My cat knows I bring the food and water to him, but he knows I will make him work for it. (He's trained and doesn't get any food or treats from me unless he sits and/or stays.) He knows that I will pet him and love on him, and he knows that he can play with me. But he also knows I will scold him if he misbehaves. He's a sweet cat (most of the time) and follows us around.
I think he thinks he's part of the family. No, wait, he knows he's part of the family.

I think my cat sees me as another cat, We play scrunchie ball together, and she could out beat any goalie in the NHL. She's my companion out of her choice, She talks in her way of purrs, chirps and vocal responces, and I don't need an alarm to wake me up for work either, I get my hair washed and eyebrows done for that, She doesn't grasp the concept of sleeping in on weekends though, Still working on that one. She knows that us hairless apes sort of, have to go to work, to support them, I'm being bugged now for being on the computer, Cats rule, and it's nice when you have a good one.

One of my kittens thinks I'm his mommy. That's why he like to climb on me and suck on my earlobe. My other cats just look at me as a big cat that know where the food and treats are and how to easily get them.

Cats think of you as their mother.
Because, you know that thing they do with their paws? That sort of massage thing.
Well, when cats are kittens, they do that to their mother for milk. And if they do that to you, they think your their mother, and want milk
Lol.
I read that in a cat book :)

my cat thinks that i am some kind of huge blanket. he always sleeps on me or near me. I radiate some sort of heat that my cat seems to like and falls asleep to. it doesn't bother me. actually i enjoy it 'cause it keeps me warm too! :)

I think my cat thinks both my husband and I are providers of food, treats, water; cleaners of the litter box; cat nip suppliers and tummy rubbers. In return for our good behavior we are rewarded with purrs, happy feet (that paw thing they do) and cuddling... she has both of us well trained! :-)
