My mom has these bags under her eyes and she says they kinda itch and burn (sorry if this sounds gross to you) Her skin under her eyes is also swollen and red. I am worried about her but she will never go to the doctor. They have been there for a long time now. Do any of you guys know what it could be and what she can do to get rid of them? And could an inadequate amount of sleep be the problem? (She works a night job so she doesn't get much sleep sometimes)
Thanks so much everyone for all your help! =)

It would be rare for Eczema to start at the eyes. usually starts in a "drier" spot like elbows, hands, etc. The itching, burning and puffiness would indicate an allergic reaction to something...pollen or perhaps a change in makeup brands? Try eliminating everything that has changed around the time this started..like types of cleaners, dryer sheet types, whatever you can think of. if it is in fact an allergy, have her take some benadryl, which is given for allergic reactions, and see if there is any improvement, even temporary. this would help either rule in or out allergies. also, have her think if any "environmental" factors have changed at work. good luck!

Could be a lack of sleep.
Could be allergies.
Could be pink eye.
Could be that she cries a lot.
Could be any number of things.
I would say allergies, or lack of sleep most likely. I've noticed that I get bags more often now that I'm getting older, and sometimes allergies I never had before. You should try to get her to go to a doctor.
Good Luck!

Maybe she is having problems with allergy's. You should have her try some benedryl and visine see if that helps. Also, it could be from a make up she might be using, maybe change brands or stop use of mascara or eye liner.

Your mom is wrong because she wanted you to go with your sister to a hair appt. instead of going to school. What's up with that??? Your were considerate to ask her to talk to you the night before and considerate to try and calm your sister down. You should be encouraged to go to school and not dissed for it. I don't get where your mom is coming from at all. Your priorities are correct and you sound like a great person. Your mom--not so much. Maybe she was really stressed but in this situation, you were right and she was out of line. I would just drop it, though. I hope she realizes what she did wrong and makes an effort to talk with you. If she's just too stressed and this gets to be a pattern then you might try to connect with an aunt or some other female family member that you can talk to about important things. Good luck!! : /

She really, really should go to a doctor. I used to work graveyard shifts, and I never got itchy red skin under my eyes. It sounds like she has an infection of some sort, and if it's pinkeye, that's highly contagious.

It could be..
Allergies
Pink Eye.
Lack of sleep..
Diabetes
Hepatitis..
Or..
One time my moms eyes got really puffy after she ate something and then the next time she ate that she had an anaphalactic reaction and had to be rushed to the hospital.
It may be something she is eating.

well, there is a condition called Graves disease that comes from a thyroid problem not being treated... has she had unexplained weight gain or loss? Tell her how worried you are & if it is Graves & she continues to leave it untreated, she could go blind. Maybe she'll go if you tell her that.
I'm sorry she's not well & I'm sorry you're so worried.
