Is a fret the actual line or the space between them?

Do you recommend using a pick or your fingers?

If using your fingers for more complex plucking, how can you do this without dulling out the sound of each pluck? (Things sound crisper when I use a pick.)

Thank you

The frets on a guitar are the open spaces between the metal fret bars. Always place your fingertips close to the fret bar that is to the next fret, but not on top of it for a distinct sound.

Begin to prepare your fingernails for plucking by frequent filing to encourage growth. Use a good hair rinse having collagen in it. This strengthens the nails.

I use a thumbpick usually, but often resort to bare thumb and its nail when my hands are dry. Fingernails produce a pleasant tone all by themselves, but draw short on volume. You'll have to decide which route is best for you.

The fret is the space between, where your fingers go.

Use both a pick and fingers.

Some use fingernails. Find a guitar that doesn't sound as dull when using your fingers. It depends on the type of guitar and strings you are using.

Good luck :)

Burst of notes and burst overlay can result from finger picking.Using a pick will enhance the notes, but will rarely produce an overlay.I play electric or acoustic bare fingered. The nails wear down and callous and blister forms anyway.Finger plucking will train you to be bold and fearless. The pick my encourage you to be a copy cat.Try tunings and a slide to see what your ears can discern.

Space between

Learn both, picks are nessicary for some songs, finger picking for others, and some you can do both.

pluck hard, maybe even use nails depengin on the sound you want.

If you like the sound you get with a flat pick and you want that crisper, louder sound when fingerpicking, try wearing a thumbpick and fingerpicks.
