I am an MBA graduate with 7 years of experience in corporate finance and accounting at large corporations in US and Canada. Good work ethics, good reputation and good at what I do. I am thinking about joining one of the Big 4 as a business consultant in Canada, but I don't really want to pursue any of the accounting certifications (CA, CGA etc). Is this going to limit my career growth in a major firm regardless how well I perform as a consultant? Will I be pressured into getting the certifications?

I especially appreciate answers from people employed in the Big 4.

I do not work for one of the big 4, but imagine that failure to increase your value to the company will limit your prospects.

A way to find out is to go to their website and research the careers. Look for the advanced positions and see what the minimum requirements are to fill it.

If they include accounting certifications, then you will have found the answer to your question.

Best of Luck.
