It all depends on the drop height...
- Foam packing peanuts?
- Bubble wrap?
- A cut up portion of an egg carton?
- Socks or other fluffy articles of clothing?
- Leave the egg inside the chicken?

listen i did the same thing about 5 weeks ago. Mine was the most affective. Get a foam block 10 cm thick 10 cm high and 10 cm long. Cut a slit in it. In the very centre hollow out enough for the egg. put the egg in. Sticky tape the slit.(u may need loads of sticky tape to be sure)

Well, if you have the access to it, the material that they make those memory foam mattresses works amazingly well. We did an egg drop two years ago, some kid did that, and did really well. It was a smallish plastic coffee container too.
I would recommend popcorn, but you said you can't.

hmm if that are the only rules then get like a empty toliet paper roll and make a contaner with bubble wrap (if you can or else just use straws) then glue the straws to all the sides and make like a padding with straws on the bottom(2 to3 rows) and your done.
mine managed to survive from 30 ft

2 styrofoam cups (one inside the other) internal padding of your choice and tape the top. Egg will be shaken but not stirred.

sweet project, try padding it with tissues or toilet paper and wrapping the egg in bubblewrap inside a gift box of some sort
