German Shepherds can vary greatly in price. It really depends on what you are looking for. A good, reputable, and experienced breeder will usually classify pups in the litter as pet quality, breeding quality, or competition quality. With pet quality being the least expensive. Some breeders will charge slightly more for females than males. You can expect to pay anywhere from $600 to $1,500 for a good pet-quality German Shepherd and $1,000 and up for breeding or competition quality dogs. Be wary of breeders who sell their pups for much less than $600. This usually means that the breeder has cut corners by neglecting proper nutrition and health care which could end up costing you more in vet bills in the long run! Just keep in mind that a good breeder has the dogs best interest at heart. Sometimes the saying "you get what you pay for" is more true than we realize. Please also keep in mind that the German Shepherd breed requires MUCH attention. They are one of the most intelligent breeds out there and if you don't give them the attention they need or train them properly they will own you instead of you owning them. This breed is not for everyone so you may want to do some research (if you haven't already) on the breed to make sure that a German Shepherd Dog is REALLY what you want.

It depends on whether you want pet quality or show quality. Dogs purchased from breeders are less expensive than those purchased at a pet store. A german shepherd dog, as with all purebred dogs, should be purchased from a reputable breeder, who can guarantee it to be genetically free from hip dysplasia and other health problems that the breed is prone to have (see the link below). You don't want to get a dog, fall in love with it, then find that it will cost you thousands of dollars to have corrective surgery, or that the problem cannot be corrected. Make sure that you get registration papers with the dog. I don't know where you live, but in Canada, it is illegal to sell a purebred dog without registration papers (a contravention of the Livestock-Pedigree Act).

I think you mean how much do they cost, because to a loving owner, their worth can't even be measured in dollars and cents.
The cost of a German Shepherd can vary, depending on the quality of dog you buy. You can pay $200 for a lower quality dog or $1000 for a high quality dog.

Depends. Are the parents AKC with all the health clearances such as OFA and CERF? I wouldn't buy one without them and I would expect to pay at least $800 from a good breeder.
I read a study that said over the lifetime of your pet you will spend some where around $12,000 on vet care, food etc.

Look in your local paper or a search engine on line. They usually range from $300-1200 depending on their blood line.

Go to petfinder.org. There are tons available that need rescuing. I don't think they're worth much because I have 4 very, very, very annoying neighbor GS. But they haven't been raised well by their stupid dad. Adopt from a shelter if you can.
