One of my good friends is in 11th grade and is pregnant. She is Catholic and goes to ccd classes (catechism) and is doing extra classes to be confirmed. She's only 17. So even though she is pregnant can she still be confirmed in the catholic church?

Please no anti Catholic stuff either.

Yes you definetely can. I know girls who have.

I just wanted to add that the church does not scold you, look bad at the situation, or make you take extra classes for this. Before you make your confirmation you go to reconciliation. In Reconciliation you would confess premarital relations, which is immediately forgiven.

This is only my opinion. But as i understand it...catechism is a ritual that represents a person becoming a mature adult catholic accepting the responsibilities of a catholic as an adult.. Being a pregnant teen should have nothing to do with it. The priest, however, may have something else to say about it... especially if she is unwed and "living in sin".

The same thing happened to my aunt. She was still able to be confirmed. She went to confession and everything was fine. The Catholic church will still allow your friend to be confirmed, but the priests might have a few things to say to her.

Yes she can still be Confirmed. Everyone commits sin. If it is still your friend's intention to receive Confirmation, the Church will most likely allow her to do so.

As a gesture of sincerity, she might want to receive the Sacrament of Confession prior to receiving Confirmation, and confess the sin of fornication(s) that have lead to your friend's pregnancy.

I don't know, but the important thing is that she knows that God still loves her and won't abandon her even if the church does. What I want to know is, will the guy still be confirmed if he's Catholic?

In the Catholic church being pregnant is not a sin in any way. Now, the way you get pregnant is considered a sin if you are not married. I don't think the church would deny her the sacrament.

As long as she has confessed her premarital relations with a contrite heart, is going to keep the baby, and live faithfully to the Church and to God, then I don't see why not.

I'll pray for her, hopefully she has a very humble and loving priest she can talk to. Don't be offset by the judgments of others, ignore their lack of true witness and stick to the Faith.

With the Catholic church, well...mainly Christians in general...it's the lesser of 2 evils to have pre-marital sex and take care of the baby than to have pre-marital sex and then have an abortion...

So they will likely allow her to be confirmed.

She can and she should get confirmed, because Confirmation is a Sacrament and a way God imparts grace on us. In her situation, she needs as much grace as she can get.

P.S. Sacraments are never denied to a person who HAS sinned, or none of us would get any of them. They are only denied to people who refuse to repent of their sin.

Yes....she can be confirmed. Life happens and I am sure she has learned a real big lesson out of this. At this point with the pregnancy continuing, she will need her faith all the more!
