strange, but the dates that were dropped were in October 1582. England finally adopted it in 1752, and dropped ten days in September of that year
Shakespeare died in England, which still used the Julian calendar. all the rest of Catholic world had switched to Gregorian calendar
your teacher should know all you little buggers will come onto the internet and look this stuff up.

William Shakespeare and Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra both died on this date in 1616. Cervantes New Style and Shakespeare Old Style, so they actually died ten days apart.
Wordsworth also died on this date in 1850. That was just twelve days shy of 234 years after Shakespeare. It's okay not to be impressed. There is also a tradition that Shakespeare was born on April 23 (1554). That far back, the dates that are more likely to be recorded are those of baptisms.

Perhaps it was the day they were buried not the day they died? Maybe William Shakespeares funeral and mourners wouldnt let him be buried until ten days after he had died? Poor record keeping? I dunno....
I do know that there is a great deal of conspiracy theorists that hold the opinion that William Shakespeare did not do many of his own works.... that there was a lot of 'stealing' of materials from others who were surrounding him.

The 2 calendars were different. One was Julian and one was Gregorian.
