Do see a more liberal and less Dogmatic, Catholic Church emerging from American Roman Catholics. I just notice that Roman Catholics in America seem to be less "strict" in practicing the Dogma of the Church and was wondering if anyone sees a "America Catholic Church" forming.

To Mikeysmom's comment: The Holy See is tolerating quite a bit of changes in the way Catholic Churches and Catholics practice in America. Honestly I think the Holy See does not want to impose and incite outrage.

I see a lot of "Card Carrying Catholics"...but that applies to just about any other religion or denomination as well. People say they are, but don't follow the rules. Is that what you meant? But no, I don't see an American Catholic Church forming anytime soon...

What you've noticed is pretty much a "red state" - "blue state" kind of thing ... only it can be observed at parishes that are located right next door to each other.

The Catholic church is primarily a sacramental and eucharistic church, so can tolerate wide variations in local preferences and practices ... within certain clearly defined limits.

And since we already have a United States Council of Catholic Bishops, and the American bishops are in local control of the church, it could be argued that an "American Catholic Church" ... at least on a defacto basis, has already existed for some time.

Yes because i think americans are a little more acepting of modernizing the church i know from my personal thoughts that there are some big issues in the catholic church that need to be delt with and the people in power refuse to listen to the lay people who are saying fix it. But not throwing out the all of the traditions of the church.

For all practical purposes I would say that's already happened. The cardinals in America seem to pay lip-service to Rome and that's about it. They publish a translation of the Bible that the Vatican condemned (NAB), and in fact have to retranslate many passages just so they can have a liturgy. There's no will at all in the American Catholic Church to conform to the Vatican's stands on sexual mores (abortion, birth-control, homosexuality, etc). I'm not Catholic, so it's an outsider's perspective, but that's what I see.

Peace to you.

band....

no....if anything, I think that the Catholic Church is gearing up to take control of everything they used to have control of... schools, law, land, riches, politics, etc.,.

Of course, it may take a while, but, after the the new Pope was installed and I learned a bit about him and of his particular "title" of being the Grand Inquisitor and how he's spending millions to fix up the old dungeons etc.,. to the way it used to be...and then when he had recently stated what he did about "Christianity", I have been watching and reading more, and I believe the new Pope is going to excercise his "right" as Judge and Jury about heretics...which means he has the authority within the Catholic Church in ALL Countries to do whatever he wishes to anyone whom is not Catholic or acting as a Catholic should....

.... I think the Queen of Babylon is rearing her royal head....

Peace be with you all :)

No, then they would be called protestants. Just like other religions, some people are more traditional than others. So that means there are still traditional Catholics in America. Any changes would not be tolerated by the Pope anyway.

I was born a Catholic and went mostly to Catholic schools. But my religious philosophy now is that the church failed to adjust to what life is now, years from when the church was first formed.

Good grief - I hope not. I'll be one of the people remaining faithful to Rome. Catholics didn't make up dogma - it's God's Will. If certain American people don't like it, well, they don't have an argument with the Rome, they have one with God.

I see a great desire among the Catholics I know for a return to greater orthodoxy. I hope American bishops will respond to this.

The LAST thing we need is that.

We need the Churches in America to be MORE faithful to the Holy See....not LESS.
