it is a good idea to establish her with a babysitter, you never know when you may need it, then she wil already be familiar.

i think it's a great idea. not only will daycare benefit you (much needed rest when your child is away) but it also benefits the child as far as social, emotional and cognitive skills are concerend.
My daughter just turned 1 2 weeks ago and has been going to daycare 3 days a week since she was 6 months. And frm what I can see she really enjoys being with other kids and stuff. a few times recently she even cried when it was time to go home. lol.
so i think it would be a good idea especially if she's the only child in the house. But i will say do a complete investigation on the center before enrolling your child. I was lucky enough to get my daughter a spot at a center I worked in for 4 years before having her, and that made it all the more easier for me.
good luck

My daughter stays with her grandma while I work.....she used to stay with her every day. But when she was about 10 months old I put her in daycare 2 days per week. I did it mostly for the socialization (she is now 17 months) but it has been a real lifesaver on days when Grandma is sick or needs an extra day off. Plus, although she is an only child, she loves other kids, is pretty good at sharing, is learning songs, her colors, shapes......it is a learning center daycare and she is in a class of all 1 year olds. It has done her a world of good and I have NO regrets about her going.
Good luck.

I think its a great idea. Its a wonderful way for your daughter to make friends and for you to meet other parents in the area. It also give you an opportunity of get your grocery shopping done or just relax.
I have my own daycare and I know many parents who do this. Good luck with your move and I hope you feel better soon.

I'm a child care home provider... I reccomend that you not count on a day care CENTER for emergency care... there aren't always openings for drop ins... what I DO reccomend is that you contact the Community Action Agency in that area most specifically the Child Care Resource and Referral program within Comm. Action. They will be able to put you in touch with home providers in that are that have more flexible hours and take drop ins.

I don't think it's silly, but I don't know if it's the only choice for you. You probably need a support group. Since you say you're sick, are you going to the Dr a lot? Or a hospital? Ask a Dr for info in your area about support groups. Also, check if there is a local Red Cross, they have babysitter training classes and usually have info about babysitters in the area. My final recommendation is to join MOMS Club (Moms Offering Moms Support) go to momsclub.org to see if there is one in your area, there probably is! Goodluck!

I don't really like daycare personally. But if that's your only choice it would be better than just finding some random person in the paper or something. I know it's hard moving where you don't know anyone, good luck!
