I personally have used ADB (Apple Desktop Bus) cables which are used on Macintoshes for the keyboard, mouse, etc. as they use the same connector as S-Video. Other than that I would recommend going for a specific cable construction rather than a certain brand. What you want to look for are are cables that have the luma and chroma lines individually shielded rather than just having all 4 wires share a common shield. It can be hard to tell the difference sometimes but if the package or web page says twin coax or something similar you should be OK.

s-video is useless, because you are still only displaying at 480i, it is no better than composite video, the best cables that you can buy are NOT monster cable, i firmly believe anything that is gold plated with sturdy connectors will do great, and this does not cost a lot. I have looked into monster cable for a while and the only reason that you are paying $80 for a $5 video cable is because they have advertizers that have made up a bunch of fancy words for a shielded cable and you are paying for the name that is it
component is a little better because it separates the colors but again, if you are only viewing a standard def. source, it is not worth it.

No matter what the brand, make sure the ground-shields on both ends are actually connected and not floating. Unfortunately, there is no way to check that without a continuity meter; however, if you see lots of noise/banding on your TV your wire is not properly grounded.

Unless you go beyond the 32" tv screen, it doesn't matter. I have invested (wasted) a lot on those monster cables (monstrous cost) and I do not see any difference for that matter. I am very meticulous on my hometheater 110" DLP projector set-up and I have tried those expensive cables even the "component" types and nothing significant. Trust your eyes and ears not the brand.
