This guy added me to Facebook, but I don't think I know him. I actually think he added me by mistake. Would it be polite for me to remove him from my friends? I try to keep my friends list for people I actually know. I'm not one of those people who adds everyone they can find just to look popular.

I think that how your action can be interpreted depends on a person. I, for example would think it’s rude for a girl to delete me from her friends list unless I added her by mistake (at which point it would not matter to me if I were to be deleted from her list because I didn’t know her to begin with). I understand that you would like to have those whom you know on your list; I also prefer to keep only the people i know on my list.

I think the best thing for you to do is to ask him why he added you to his friends list and warn him (in a nice way) that you will delete him if he doesn’t give you a reasonable answer.

You don't have to accept the friend invitation if you don't want to, and if you are already friends it won't send him a message or anything when you remove him. It's completely acceptable behavior within the realm of Facebook.

exactly what your saying. You just answered your own question so go ahead & remove him. Who cares if he thinks it would be rude? you don't know him, remember?
