It depends on how much nearsightedness, but if you take a magnifying glass and hold it up to your eye, you will see everything blurry in the distance, and be able to see up close pretty well. This would be a moderate to severe myope. Try it! It will not hurt you in the long term to do it! O^O

With my glasses off, I can see clearly at distances of up to almost a foot. I am SEVERELY myopic or near-sighted. Beyond that distance, objects rapidly begin to get fuzzy but they do not disappear in a giant fogbank or anything like that. I can see cars on a road, just not clearly enough to be safe driving. I can even see fuzzy spots in the night sky instead of stars and planets.

Van Gogh's Starry Night is a fairly good version of how I see the night sky, which is no big surprise as astigmatism is a common factor with him and me.

Jeff is wrong, if you wear their glasses, you will not experience their vision.

The easiest way it to buy a pair of +2.50 or +3.00 reading glasses from a dollar store and wear them. The vision with them on is just like a -2.50 or -3.00 myope has without glasses.

The best way for you to understand is to wear their glasses. Your eyes may be able to adjust and focus better than the owners; but you will see about how they see without the glasses!

Usually you can see quite clear if you are reading a book, but further things are blurred - you can't read subtitles on TV or see the signs on shops. If you have a big dioptry, eyeglasses/lenses help you to see normaly, but can make you some difficulties with reading. (Letters become too sharp and tend to "double".)
