I was all excited about going to my first homecoming dance, but now things are starting to change. In junior high I skipped all the dances and now that I was finally going to have a social life my parents were ecstatic. My mom let me buy an exspensive dress and offered to pay for tickets and everything. Homecoming is in a week and now I don't want to go. Some stuff has been going on at school with friends and boys and I just don't think emotionally I could handle being there. (sorry i'm so vague, but the situation is complicated) I can't tell my parents the real reason I don't want to go, we can still return the dress and everything and get the money back. They just don't understand how high school is these days. What excuse can I use to convince them to not make me go to the dance?

I don't blame you for not wanting to go. There is so much drama in junior high and high school.... sigh.... I hated it. I dropped out and went to home schooling through graduation. Everyone's personality is different, and if you're the kind of person that isn't into hanging out with cliques or following the crowd, there's nothing wrong with that. Do what makes you feel good, you won't regret being true to yourself. Tell your parents that high school is not the same as when they were in high school. It really isn't.. there's too much bad influence now... and people are so mean to each other. I'm sorry you're having a hard time. Just keep close to the friends you have that are kind-hearted, you'll get through it.

Be honest with your parents and tell them you don't want to go. No excuses needed.
