For the same reason people tend to work harder when they first start a job or 7th round draft picks play so hard to make a team. In comparison to most other Christians, Mormons are new guys, the rookies, the upstarts. I guess they figure they've still got something to prove by really working hard to get their message out there. When I was young, these Mormon missionaries came to our house a few of times. They would traverse the area, which was not a good neighborhood, on bikes in 10 degree cold with ice all over the ground just to make their rounds. Even though I'm an atheist, I must admire their dedication.

What sacrifices? Are you talking about the Word of Wisdom? No coffee, tea, booze, that sort of thing? or are you talking about tithing, church duties,?
I don't think that the LDS sacrifice any more of their time than Christians. Most Christians go to church three times a week, hold positions in the women's, and children's ministries, visit the sick and those in rest homes.
There are a lot of people out there who aren't LDS who abstain from the things found in the Word of Wisdom.
Many Christian's go on missions much longer than two years.
Many Christian's pay their tithe, plus more.
I don't think the LDS are anymore special than the rest of us, or sacrifice more.

I am an ex-mormon and they make such a great sacrifice that they are on anti-depressants, I remember I couldn't be myself, I felt like I was nailed to a cross, I was a loner in the church because I was not excepted by my pior group, I had to pretend to be happy so others would think my church was the one to join, I was taught to embrace that satan was after me, and satan controled those that wer e not mormons, and that God was big brother and always watching me, and then humilated in my patriarticle blessing by the mormon God byhim exposing a sin I was dealing with, like he and I didn't already know that, dah!!!
Why do they do this, because they are brainwashed, mind controled and indoctrinated.

I think Mormonism puts greater pressures on their members to make sacrifices.

Mormons have alot to protect, Their profit Joseph Smith, makes great claims that have been proven false many times over...The lost book of Abraham really sums up the whole religion...He claimed he was able to translate ancient egyptian and told his followers that the scrolls bought for him by wealthy members of his church were the lost writings of Abraham...Unfortunately when they were uncovered and translated by actual Egyptian Scolars his translations were a little off.....A little way off. The Mormon Church is founded by one of the largest cons of the 19th century.
