can you make a cavity go away once you already have one?

No the cavity will not go away if it is left untreated. The decay will continue to get larger and it will eventually cause the nerve in the tooth to get infected. This will cause major pain and swelling and then the only treatment would be to have a root canal done to remove the infected nerve or to take the tooth out. This is why it is important to have the cavity filled when it is small so you don't do any damage to the nerve of the tooth. By the way, a cavity is not a dead tooth!!!

Can Cavities Go Away

when sugars in foods react to the saliva in your mouth it forms acid. this acid attacks the hard outer shell of your teeth (enamel). When teeth are frequently exposed to sugary foods the acids formed break down the enamel and expose the softer second layer of the tooth (dentine). Once this has occured a cavity can progress quite quickly-Kind of like an apple, where the inside goes brown and mushy on the inside when it begins to rot. Some small cavities can arrest, and not develop and further, but this is only if the it hasnt penetrated to the dentine. Its best to have the tooth restored, oherwise a cavity could eventually become so large that it reaches the nerve-and thats a whole other (more painful) story.

If you were diagnosed with a small cavity confined w/in the enamel layer, it can be treated with fl rinse such as ACT. It's call an incipient cavity. You must be deligent with the rinse otherwise the cavity could progress deeper into the dentin layer in which case the only option is a filling.

A cavity will continue to grow bigger as it is a hole in the enamel of the tooth and the tooth has started to rot. The only way to make it go away is to have a dentist fill it.

If the decay is very small and is only in the enamel, you can sometimes treat it with fluoride and get it to remineralize. However, you can't really do anything at home to just make a cavity go away. Unfortunatly, it has to be removed and filled back in with a filling.

No can do! Your tooth needs attention from a dentist as quickly as possible so that the cavity doesn't become something more serious.

NO..... If the cavity is so small (incipient carie), contained in the enamel and you floss religiously, the dental carie can be stopped as in ARRESTED CARIE. Incipient and arrested caries doesn't need to be filled. You watch them. Have it X-rayed at least once a year.

No. You need to go to a Dentist and have a filling put in it. Untreated it will keep getting larger and deeper and may result in an abcess
