Intesinal gas is produced during the digestive process. It does have to come out, or it causes abdominal distention, pain, and worst case scenario, even pressure on the abdominal blood vessels backing pressure up against the heart. People can either belch (if it's high in the digestive tract) or pass gas (if it's low in the digestive tract). Normal body function.

When people's tummies hurt, sometimes they pass gas. However, I think it's rude to do so in public if it can be avoided.
