No dog breed is 100% kid friendly.
For example, some people may say that Golden Retrievers are 100% kid friendly, but I remember seeing one attack a 4 year old boy from behind and chew on his head like a rawhide bone.

I'd also like to mention that no dog breed is 100% evil with children. There are some Pit Bulls that have been great with children, and some who have not.

You should go to a shelter near you, and ask which ones are good with kids.

I own a pembroke corgi, and it sure is a great dog. When you want them to be full of energy, they are full of energy. When you are idle and feeling calm, they follow suit. They are very good with kids, adn like all other, when you introduce them into an environment with any other kind of animal, they will be respectful, even cute, toward that animal. As for finding one in a shelter, there is a bit of a possibility. Typically, a pembroke corgi is a dog that is specially bred instead of being found in a shelter. Nonetheless, it sure is a great dog because they pretty much conform to the owner's situation, mood, and attitude. Just as a sidenote, the dog also is very versatile in that it does not grow much beyond three feet in length and one foot high; thus it doesn't eat a lot, and it doesn't require intensive exercise other breeds may need, such as German sherpards and Great Danes. Sincerely, Government Cheese

Golden Retrievers, Labs, Newfoundlands, Bernese Mountain Dogs, those are just a sample. There are many breeds that are more laid back and have a high tolerance for annoyance, which makes them great dogs to have around kids. Also remember that just about any dog can be great with kids if they are raised with kids in a positive way. The breeds I listed above can be horrible with kids if they are abused of teased by kids! This is nurture more than nature!

Bernese Mountain dogs are extremely kid friendly. When I was a kid we had a female and she let me sleep on her for hours and she never moved a muscle she was extremely sweet and loving toward the whole family and friends. I would recommend checking out the Bernese Mountain Dog official website to see if these dogs are right for you life style. Also Labs are pretty kid friendly although there energy level is really high and sometimes out of hand for young children. But they do love everyone they meet. I would personally recommend a Bernese Mountain Dog though, I have never met a more gentle dog in my life.

We have a fawn english mastiff and three children ages 3, 6, and 11. Our Mastiff's are wonderful dogs with children very patient and forgiving <---ear pulling, kicking, and rough play from our 3 year old boy. These dogs are very loyal and smart- great house dog. If you like large breed dogs that will be very pertective of your kids these are great dogs to have around. You should read about different breed types on the AKC website. If you like smaller breed dogs, do not choose a mastiff! They are very needy as pups just as new borns are! Good luck finding your puppy!

I bought my first Boxer when my son was around twelve and my daughter eight. We asked ourselves the same question, "which breed". after much study, and narrowing our choices to a few, ( lab of course being one ) we settled on the Boxer; that was sixteen years ago, and we are now on our third. There may well be other breeds of equal affection toward kids, but I doubt that there are any that could outdo the boxer.
Be aware though, that they love to "rough-house" and should your kids be of similar temperment, together they could easilydestroy your house. At first, the new puppy will drive ( probably the youngest ) one kid to distraction as it tries to dominate, and raise itself up the pecking order; this will soon pass.
It will attach itself to the family, and has to be involved in all activities; to be ignored, or kept out of the house ( this is definitely an indoor dog ) will cause it to suffer greatly. But the rewards he, or she will bring to the home, with its goofy, lovable, frustrating, stubborn antics, will sucker you to the breed for life.
Please! if you do not intend to give your heart to your pet, "do not get a Boxer" for he, or she, will surely give theirs to you.

Love Boxers. They are among the smartest of all breeds. They have a very gentle and lovable disposition. They were originally bred in China as royal watchdog-babysitters. They are instinctively protective of children. They are very tolerant and playful and can be touseled. They look ferocious and sound vicious, but are bred, not to fight, but to separate. They are also the original "fire" dog...not the Dalmatian. A boxer will instinctively watch-guard a fire and actually tamp out fire sparks or coals

Poodles are always overlooked for this question! Standard poodle if the children are too young to understand they may hurt the dog if they play too rough, the toy poodles can get hurt by accident.
Poodles are also the 2nd smartest breed of dog so easy for kids to get involved in the training responsibility and fun.

Everyone says Lab and Golden, but the truth is the more popular they have become the more stupid people are breeding them to make a quick buck. More and more temperment and health problems are cropping up. Look at rescue and petfinder. You can find gems like this..
