I come from Argentina, and I´m studying at Canada for 1 full school year. I´ve been here for only 3 weeks but I´ve problems with my host family they´ve busy schedules with their works so they´re no here for a long time with me. Sometimes i feel really lonely and I began to miss my family and friends. I talk with them and the first thing they answered was "Perfect, we´ll ask for your change" I began to cry and they were like really sorry about the answer they talk with me and what they told was "we need to work, and we are making all we can so you can feel confortable" but i feel really sad & mad with them. I´ve also some problems with them cause they don´t trust me at all they have a big lock in their room and they are always like scared. I really feel upset. They´ve another guy from South Arabia but he is all time sleeping or using computer. This is not what I really expect cause if i want this i can move into another house in my own country alone! What am I suposed to do? Urgent help

Talk to your studying abroad counselor and try to arrange a transfer to another host family. This family is not trying to give you comforts, they are avoiding you. They work for money, they let you stay at their house for money, too. This is only 3 weeks into the year. Try another place.

Talk with your school. Let them know what is going on so they can help you either change the situation in your host home, or get to another place. I also agree with the person who said Americans are work-a-holics. The average person only spends 2-3 hours a day awake in their own homes. Also, try making some friends at your school so you will have people to hang out with.

Getting used to new people also takes time. Building trusting relationships takes time too. You're just getting started... who knows, by the end of month 2 you may really like where you are. Either way, good luck!

Well it sounds like you are experiencing some cultural differences. In North America, we tend to be workaholics and many times spend very little time at home. As far as the lock on their on the door to their room, they really don't know you that well, so that is probably why. I wouldn't worry about that.
