Hi Fido, An interesting question to which I see that you have already received some answers, one that even comes close from Scneb.
Daniel was of noble birth and was taken into captivity when Nebuchadnezzar invaded the kingdom of Judah for the second time in 602 BC.
Daniel is an important role model in that he maintained his connection with God despite all the temptations the Babylonians put before him when he was first captured and later when he had obtained high office.
Because of his reliance on God, he was allowed to have glimpses of future events that affected God's people. He had direct communication with an angel called Gabriel who was God's messenger.
The prophecies that he recorded list the succession of empires that would rule in the eastern Mediteranean.
Considering that he covers a time from c.600 - 534 BC when the Babylonian Empire reigned supreme, he was shown that they would fall to the Medo-Persian Empire under Cyrus. ( The prophet Isaiah had already named Cyrus some 120 years before he was born as the deliverer of God's people). Daniel 5 records the event. He was then shown that another kingdom would follow and history tells us that it was Alexander the Great who conquered the Persians but that the Grecian Empire would become divided into four kingdoms and would also be overthrown by a fourth terrible kingdom of iron. History clearly points to the Roman Empire. Daniel 2 & 7. The Roman empire was to disipate into ten kindoms and a new power would arise that was not just a political power but also religious because it spoke blasphemy against God. You should be able to work out who that power was.
Daniel was also shown a court room scene in which books were opened and a judgment began. This judgment was in favour of "One like the Son of Man" and He was given dominion, glory and a kingdom.
All the symbols are explained by Gabriel in verses 7:23 -27 so there should be no dispute as to who is mentioned.
Daniel 8 records a vision still in the time of Babylon about the overthrow of the Persian Empire by the Greeks. Again the vision is explained except for the vision of the 2300 days 8:14.
This seriously troubles Daniel because it appears that the 70 years of captivity prophesied by Jeremiah had been extended to a time in the distant future.
Daniel has to wait 13 years before he receives an answer after he has prayed one of the humblest prayers recorded in the Bible.
It is here that Gabriel once again tells him about the coming of the Messiah in the 70 week prophecy.
In prophetic time a day = 1 year. There is ample evidence of this - the Israelites were condemned to 40 years in the wilderness for 1 for each day the spies had been in the Promised Land. Numbers 14:34. Also Ezekiel 4:6.
70 x 7 = 490. This prophecy was to extend for 490 years but to know how to count it off we must know when it began.
Gabriel tells this in Daniel 7:25. "“Know therefore and understand,
That from the going forth of the command
To restore and build Jerusalem
Until Messiah the Prince,
There shall be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks;
There were three commands from subsequent rulers of Babylon. Cyrus, Darius and Artaxerxes. It was Artaxerxes commandment that restored the civil rights to the exiles in 457 BC. All this is recorded in the Book of Ezra.
So the starting date for the prophecy is 457 BC.
Now notice that at this point we have two parts a 7 x 7 & 62 x 7. This totals 69 x 7 = 483 years of the prophecy and then the Messiah would appear. If we project these 483 years onto 457 BC it brings us to 27 AD. (Note there is no year 0 so we must add 1 for the change over from BC - AD)
This means that the Messiah appeared in 27 AD. This is confirmed in the New Testament by Luke, "When all the people were baptized, it came to pass that Jesus also was baptized; and while He prayed, the heaven was opened. And the Holy Spirit descended in bodily form like a dove upon Him, and a voice came from heaven which said, “You are My beloved Son; in You I am well pleased.”
Now Jesus Himself began His ministry at about thirty years of age, Luke 3:21-23. (Jesus was actually born about 4 BC. Our calandars are out by about 4 years because of a slip made by a monk in the 3rd century and it has never been corrected)
Gabriel goes on - Dan.9:26
"“And after the sixty-two weeks
Messiah shall be cut off, but not for Himself;
Verse 27 "Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week;
But in the middle of the week
He shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering.
The term "cut off" means put to death. Notice that it says in the MIDDLE of the week. In other words in 3 and a half years.
This brings us to the Spring of 30 AD when on the 14th day of Nizan the Feast of the Passover (March/April) was celebrated. Jesus as the Passover Lamb of God was crucified on that day. His sacrifice brought an end for the need of animal sacrifices as an atonement for sin.
The cleansing of the Sanctuary occured in the month of Tishri the 7th month (Sept/Oct) The Day of Atonement was a Day of Judgment when the sins that had piled up in the Sanctuary were symbolically removed.
The 2300 day prophecy brings us to 1844 when judgment began in heaven. The same thing that Daniel witnessed when the books were opened.
We are currently under judgment. Judgment begins with God's people - "For the time has come for judgment to begin at the house of God; and if it begins with us first, what will be the end of those who do not obey the gospel of God?" 1 Peter 4:17.
I hope that that has cleared up any problem that you had with the Book of Daniel and some of the false teaching that has sprung up with regard to the final week of the 70 week prophecy by removing it from its context and pushing it somewhere into the future and tying it with the time of tribulation.
God Bless.
H'chat.

Daniel is one of a handful of Old Testament Prophets to deal with the End Times, so his writings are scrutinized very closely.

Daniel was an extremely important prophet because Daniel through Nebuchadnezzar's dream revealed God's timeline for the future. Even Israel's time clock is in the Book of Daniel. Even Gabriel told Daniel that he was highly esteemed by God.

The Book of Daniel was the only book Jesus Himself commanded us to read. Matthew 24:15 and Mark 13:14.

The abomination of desolation is the key to where the Holy Place is. Can you find it ?

Look for a variation of these words in Daniel 8, 11, and 12.
Pay close attention to where Daniel is when the vision takes place.

Now do not let yourselves be deceived by men.
April 20, 33 AD is the day Jesus was glorifed, 280 years after Jesus' birth the Time of the Jews were fulfilled.
The year of the rapture (BLESSED) is 2800 AD

Respectfully these years are 200300 days divided 360
100290 days divided by 360
1,003,530 days divided by 360

From Abraham until Jesus was 42 generation, Revelation calls it 42 months.

Very. From his book we get the exact day when Messiah was to march into Jerusalem, and confirm what will take place in Revelation.

From his book we get a "between the testaments" time line regarding Alexander the Great and his four successors.

Daniel was also important regarding the transition from the rule of Babylon to the Medes and the Persians. Not only the physical warfare, but the spiritual warfare as well.

It also showed the fulfillment of the end of God's 70 year servitude regarding Israel's failure to give the land her Sabbaths.

That is just for starters!

If Jesus is the fulfillment of the regulation (Torah) then shouldn't they be versed on what the regulation involves? If Jesus grew to become right into a Hebrew and Christians are meant to emulate Jesus shouldn't they be cognizant of the custom wherein he grew to become into raised?
