No, you will maintain your status.

You don't have to talk to an immigration lawyer! Just call USCIS (U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services) or go to their office and they will answer all your questions for free. You can find phone numbers and office locations on their website http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis

The lawyers will just lie to you to get your money.

Your mother's husband filed for you as your stepfather. He remains your stepfather, even if your mother should die. It won't make any difference for immigration purposes in any case if he should adopt you as you are now over 16. I'm sure everyone here hopes for the best for you and your family.

Honey, I'm very sorry. I'll pray for you and your mother. You may be forced to go back to Japan, not because of the greencard issue, but because you are a minor and your father will be given custody. I'm hoping all can be worked out for the best for you.

No, you won't lose your status; once you have a green card, you are a permanent resident of the US. Hopefully, you have a 10 year card, so you'll be eligible for citizenship before the card expires.
