I guess so, if you do it with little treats. It's pretty easy to make a cat come to you, but getting it onto your lap... Sometimes, some cats just aren't lap cats, and they don't like to linger there. It *may* be possible to get it to jump up but it might not stay. D:

The more affectionate cats would be more likely to do it, even without treats. And then there are the cats who just can't be bothered to come over unless it really is in the mood to "oblige" you. Ah well, cats are cats. Good luck!

You can but you cant really train a cat to come towards you or get get on your lap you. Your cat usually just comes as a lap cat or doesn't. Hope i helped.

Only if the cat is willing to be trained!
My cats come when called, most of the time. One even responds to whistles. And one will hop on my lap if I pat it with my hands.
Try treats as an enticement. But not all cats are lap cats, so it won't always work.
Good luck!

Yes, but it takes a while (I trained my cat). To call my cat anywhere (basically to come, or come and sit on my lap) I would make this sound with my mouth. Just kepp doing what ever you do to call it and pet it, and give it a treat if it listens. My cat did this well until my dad started complaining about his alergies to the cat, which was really just the mold from his magazines piled under and around his bed. He took her to a shelter, without even telling the rest of us.

It has to be in the cat's nature or be something it's not afraid of, otherwise you've no chance and it would be cruel. If your cat is timid, it would be unkind to try and force him to sit on your lap or come near you if it's not in his nature.

If you have an affectionate, trusting cat who likes human company, or at least your company, give him a reason for wanting to be there. It might be that you have to use edible treats, mabye stroking, maybe a play time. The main thing is that he needs to associate being with you when you call him with something he enjoys. You're the best person to decide what the treat will be as he's your cat and you know him best. For example, every time we Scamp, one of our cats, we reward him immediately with 5 minutes of stroking his cheeks as that's his favourite. Another one we scratch the base of his tail. On the other hand, we never try to get Ripple, our timid little scaredy cat, to sit on our laps as he's petrified of being close most of the time. Instead we wait until he comes to us for affection.

I've had my cats 8 1/2 years and they follow me everywhere and stay on my lap any time i'm sitting down. I've never had to train them. I think it's just natural.

Right...train a cat! More likely that your cat will train you. :)

One of my cats will come to me when I call him. The other one can be walking towards me and I will call her name and she plops down where she is. It needs to be HER idea to come to me.
Same thing with jumping on my lap. When I pat my leg, one of my cats will jump right up. The other one will usually yawn and stay put. Again, it needs to be HER idea.

So, to answer you question, it depends on your cat's personality. Good luck!

One of my cats can do that, but I didn't train it. Usually it is something they do naturally if they want to. Since cat's aren't like dogs in that particular category Probably not. unless you kinda train it like you would train a dog; With treats, and praise.
