I'm curious about using it in my car because it is so cheap! Could my car run on it? Has anyone tried this in an older car?

Ethanol likes to eat gaskets in vehicles not designed for it, but I am sure it would run fine, the gas mileage and power will be slightly less than conventional fuel.

what i have found is that the alcohol willl dissolve any varnish accumulated in the fuel system and then tend to clog the injectors [this is a temporary problem] once the varnish is [cleaned up] you will be back to the good. to prepare for this the fuel filter should be replaced and a complete cleaning of the intake system preformed, [replace or clean the spark plugs at this point] as well as a crankcase vent system service [flame trap replacement] then start using the e-85
continue until a drop in performance and smoothness is noticed then have the injectors cleaned professionaly and replace the oxygen sensor and again replace the fuel filter [tank additives will not work] it takes about 3-4 tanks of e-85 before this happens. after the cleaning everything will be ok if you continue w/ e-85 [occaisional tanks of regular will not hurt if the e-85 becomes unavailable to you]

note: a fuel with a higher content of alcohol than e-85 has been known to shorten fuel pump life and cause rapid buildup of deposites in throttle body and constant idle motor so only use a certified blend from a reliable source
good luck and despite the initial costs you will realize significant savings in short order

E85 is hot fuel as opposed to gasoline. If your engine is fresh (not that many miles) it is likely you will cause it to wear real fast. Alcohol washes the oil from the cylinder walls (well worn engines do well on E85) There may also be problems with the catalytic converter but i am not sure on that.

You have to be most careful on changing a crankshaft oil seal. Just a small scratch on the metal surace when you try to remove the old seal, can lead to an oil leak when the engine is running hot.

It will make your car run like crap and clog your injectors. If your car isnt set up for it, dont use it.
