Lets say that someone has got a number of convictions for disorderly conduction or assault. Hiring this person could possibly put customers and coworkers at risk. There is also the issue of making sure you have a dependable worker. Lets say a job applicant is always getting in trouble with the law. If they are in and out of jail or have court dates to attend, they aren't a good candidate for the job because their availability to work will be hampered by outside obligations. These are just a few of the many reasons why companies always background check or investigate job applicants. However, most don't do these on every single person who submits an job resume or application. They typically hold interviews first and then background check anyone they are pretty sure they want to hire.

criminal histories can be overcome, so long as they are not felonies are domestic assualt. Crimes that deal with moral turpitude (stealing and such) are often suspect and do not show kindly upon a persons character.

the biggest thing is lying. This is either by omission (willfully leaving it out) or altering the facts (making yourself look better).

I got hired as a LEO and I have a minor misdemeanor in my background. This was in the early 90s when it happened, so it was taken into account that it happend over 10 years ago.

Lying on your application. I do many of the background checks for our department. I don't make the decisions to hire or not, I just turn the information over to my lieutenant. Lie about anything and that is grounds not to hire.

now a days company's can so easily obtain backround information on a potiental employee, so now instead of just looking for felonies they can just go to the computer and find out everything you have ever don. some companies are really strickt no record at all, while some will allow misdemenors that dont iclude anything with violence, theft, or sexual deprevity, so it depends on the company but if you have any criminal history than its a gamble

One reason sticks out.... LYING.

No one is perfect, and employers know that. But when applicants try to hide something, they show deception, and that is not a desirable quality.

They lie about something that was very minor and thought that it wouldn't matter. Any lies discovered will be grounds for a failure.

there are numerous things that can fail you.the main thing i have heard from officers all over the country is that they lied on their application and got caught.
