We do potatoes in the Microwave, and they are just as good as oven baked that take a long time.
In the microwave, you would cook a couple of them for about 5 or 6 minutes, after sticking some holes in them with a fork or a toothpick. Place them on a paper plate, and set timer for 5 minutes. If not soft like, then cook again another 50 seconds, until done. Slice open, and add butter and pepper. You don't need any salt, because they have a natural salt in them.

Microwave on High for 7 minutes for a cooked center..to have a soft skin, rub a little shortening over the potato and make sure to use a fork to poke a couple holes for venting steam while cooking.
In the oven? You want 350 degrees for an hour and prepared the same as above except place potato in foil(never a good idea to put any kind of foil in microwave..it will blow up on you! You can use a 400 degree oven for shorter cooking time.

Depending on type and size, generally 400-425, and anywhere from 1 hour to 1 1/4 hours.
Personally, I rub the peel with Crisco and puncture each of the four sides of each potato about 3 times, to allow steam to escape and produce a flufflier texture.
Place potatoes on rack, don't have to preheat, just allow another 5 minutes, and leave them alone for an hour. If you're doing baked stuffed potatoes, you could take them out in an hour, empty and refill the shells and finish with another 15-30 minutes back in the oven.

I bake them at 180 C, for about an hour for large potatoes, or as little as half an hour for really small ones. And don't worry about overcooking them - you could leave them in there for twice as long and they'd still be fine. It also doesn't matter if you pre-heat the oven or not (which you MUST do for cakes and breads) - just add a little more time to make up for the time it takes to warm up.

For an average size potato set the oven for 400 F and leave the potato in for 1 hour to 1 hour and 1/4. The longer you leave them the drier and fluffier they get and the skins get nice and crackly. Put butter and salt and pepper on them and you will eat like a king!

Scrub potatoes, wrap in foil (this keeps them from drying out), and place on a baking sheet . Bake 1 hour at 350 degrees.

For a medium sized baked potatoe 30 min at 350 f should do it. If your not sure if it's done you can stick a toothpick in it. If it goes in easy and comes out easy it's done. For a larger one add 10 min and smaller ones minus 10 min.
Make sure you wash the outside throughly and stick a fork in it to provide relief holes for the pressure, otherwise it will explode and make a big mess.

Pierce it with a fork a few times, then stick it in the microwave for about 5-6 minutes depending on how big it is.
