NO! You talking about declawing a dog. It cant be done it will alter the way your dog walks. It's not like a cat who you can have declawed. Dogs are very different plus I doubt very much if you can find a vet who would mutilate a dogs feet just to save your furniture.

No. Cats can be declawed because they retract their claws. Dogs can't have their claws taken off because they need them to walk.
The only claws they will take off a dog are the dewclaws--the ones that don't touch the ground, and in some cases they need to be taken off because they are poorly attached and are at risk of being ripped off the dog.
If you are worried about him messing up the furniture-start by having him inside the house and teaching him what you want him to stay off of. If he is destructive, then you can either crate him when he is alone, or if you have a room for him without any furniture or anything he can ruin in it, then you can keep him there.

If you are worried about your furniture then you should never have got a dog. Do not even think about removing his claws. How would you like your nails removed ? Same difference. If you take on the responsibility of an animal then it has to be 'warts and all' I find it disgusting that people expect vets to alter animals to suit human environments. Send this animal to a shelter so that they can find a suitable owner who cares more about it than their furnishings.

hey guys.......i have a question related but different. My dog was hit by a car and he never regained use of his leg and drags it. Because he cannot feel it he basically sanded off the top part of his foot, exposing raw flesh. Eventually I have been able to heal it up 90%, but I think his toenails somehow bother him, because he keeps biting at them from time to time, re-injuring the foot. So, I am thinking of having the vet remove these toenails to the injured leg only. The vet had suggested to amputate the entire leg, but that was before I was able to heal it up, by making him wear a sock, and if I take him for walk, also making him wear a shoe.

They are correct- vets do not remove dog's nails. Take him to the vet and have them show you how to properly keep them clipped short. If you provide your dog with toys and exercise it shouldn't be bored enough to ruin furniture. Try walking him- it sounds like you have an outdoor dog that gets little to no attention or exercise from you.

Not Possible. Declawing is removing the first digit from the animals toes. If this was done to a dog they would not be able to walk. Would you want your toes removed? Just keep your dog's toe nails trimmed, and you can train him to keep off the furniture.

No. You cannot remove dogs claws. If you think your dog will ruin your furniture while you are gone, crate him in the house and then while you are home- let him run around. I use these claw covers for my dogs and they work great: http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2750703&cp=2767032.2857519&fbx=0&fbn=Taxonomy%7CGrooming+Tools&f=Taxonomy%2FPET%2F2857519&fbc=1&parentPage=family&keepsr=1
You have to order them online because most PetSmarts do not carry them in the stores.
Also, dog do not scratch furniture like cats do so you shouldn't have to worry about him ruining your furniture. Use those claw covers incase you think he will but I promise he will not. I use the claw covers to keep my hardwood floor from being scratched.

he won't mess up the furniture, he is not a cat. My dogs have claws and I would hate to see them without them. Picture yourself without nails. They can remove them, but they won't walk the same afterwards.

I feel sorry for your dog. It sounds like he has been outside all spring and summer and now he finally gets to join the family and you care more about the couch. Why did you even get a dog?
