1 We believe that governments were instituted of God for the benefit of man; and that he holds men accountable for their acts in relation to them, both in making laws and administering them, for the good and safety of society.
2 We believe that no government can exist in peace, except such laws are framed and held inviolate as will secure to each individual the free exercise of conscience, the right and control of property, and the protection of life.

I am with you! What they did was appalling! Look at the Puritans, as well! We came to this country to gain religious freedom, and then they went to extremes with their weird ideas! Stocks, and pillories? Public humiliation?
Godly Principles are okay in their place, but not in the government!
It is absolutely imperative that we maintain separation of church and state, to prevent Zealots from pressing their views on to the whole main body of the population!

"It is impossible to rightly govern the world without God or the Bible."
"It is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the Providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor."
"Direct my thoughts, words and work. Wash away my sins in the immaculate Blood of the Lamb, and purge my heart by Thy Holy Spirit...Daily frame me more and more into the likeness of Thy Son Jesus Christ."
