The average length of pregnancy is 63 days (my dog gave birth at 61 days). Make sure you have a whelping box already out so your dog can get used to it and that way she is more likely to use it for the birth. Get a refrigerator box and cut the top and one long side off and line it with tons of newspaper and then put lots of old towels ontop on that. The delivery is messy so make sure you have the whelping box ready before hand.
Here is a link to help with any questions:

Also, make sure you are home full-time around the day she is expected to go into labor. And remember, the newborn puppies need 24/7 attention so I hope you aren't working right now.
Don't listen to everyone else- your situation is your dog is pregnant already so I don't know why they keep saying to spay her and keep being so rude to you. Just spay her after this litter.
Hope the delivery goes well and everyone is healthy!

I have two females but all dogs are basically the same an average is 63 days but they can have them a few days before or after. one of mine has had 3 litters and she delivers between 58 and 59 days my other female has had 4 litters and she delivers between 59 -64 days.
The best thing to do is starting at about day 55 start taking her temp and whe it goes to 99 or below figure she should deliver within 24-48 hour.
Sorry but just like people each dog is different and often each pregnancy cna be different.
Good Luck

If you don't even know something as simple as the gestation period then maybe you should have your Great Dane spayed. I suppose you mated her with a friend's Dane and you have no idea the lineage of either dog which can lead to birth defects and bad breeding medical issues.

Your vet is right about 52-67 days. The person that said to spay is also right. A unaltered female will have higher fatality rate because of various diseases including prolapsed uterus. When I worked for a vet, I watched at least 50 unaltered females died from that disease despite that fact that we spent three or fours in surgery to save them.

That you have a dog pregnant and do not even know this VERY basic breeding answer is reason enough to say you should not be breeding. It doesn't matter how nice of a dog you have, they are not ALL meant to have a litter and you could have just bred her with a dog who has serious health issues in his line that could link up with serious health issues in your girls pedigree and have disasterous results. Not to mention Temperaments are inherited too and you have no clue what genes are going to link up. Having a nice dog is a pisss poor excuse to breed. She doesn't owe you anything and you have put her life in jeapordy over acting like breeding is a day at the park.

your vet is right, most dogs are around 61 days, give or take a few, it dosent have anything to do with the breed. So start preparing at 56 days and get worried at 63 days.

Whoever said to spay your dog was just trying to be helpful. Millions of dogs are killed every year because they don't have homes. Please don't breed and breed. Visit a shelter and you'll see how big the problem is.
