One of my favorites is when they say that we lock Virgins in the Salt Lake Temple and they have to Jump out the windows into the Jordan River and swim to the Great Salt lake to get away. Anybody who has been to Salt Lake knows that is completely geographically impossible. The Temple is not anywhere near either the Jordan River or the Great Salt Lake.

I am LDS- Have been my whole life, that will never change.

Being vulgar is very immature and there is no place for it here.

Yes We can eat Apples. In fact the church owns apple orchards- there is one near where I live.

I heard someone say that we could not eat ice either- that is not true.

Our Word of Wisdom- or health code basically tells us to stay healthy and avoid things that are harmful or addictive- like drugs and alcohol.

That we have God's head in the Salt Lake temple and worship it. It is either that, or we worship a stuffed seagull. Clogging naked in the temple. I like the horns too. I have been asked about them and the tail.

Myths About Mormons

2016-10-31 21:06:39 · answer #2 · answered by ? 4 · 0 0

I suppose the one about the horns. And I hate the fact that it people still think we practice polygamy, but it is funny when someone finds out you are LDS and they ask "how many mom's do you have?" One "right well how many wives does your dad have?" One. "really?" yup really.

Myths are dumb and can make you mad but as long as if you yourself know that they are just myths and you know the truth that's good. Helping others to realize the truth and correct the myths is important too, that is why missionary work is so important.

The ever popular belief that LDS still practice polygamy! And this, after being told nine or ten trillion time, that it just isn't true! Are they really that stupid that they can't understand, that when you say, 'we don't do that any more" it means exactly that?
I am not LDS, any more, but reading the smart@ss answers to questions, aimed at the LDS, really makes me laugh! The non-members really think that they are such authorities, on any aspect of tenets, and they do not know what they are talking about! And the ex LDS are the worst ones! Why is that! I don't hold any animosity toward the church, why do they?

I was at the public library a few years back doing some research for my thesis. I decided to take a little study break and browse the Theology section (just to see the disparity between anti-LDS and pro-LDS material). As I'm thumbing through a book at the shelves, a man sees what I'm reading and approaches me. It was utterly inconceivable to me that a person would be possesed to say this to a stranger:

"You know, as a Black man you sure won't want to get involved with them Mormons. They trick black people into their temples with big picnics with CHICKEN & WATERMELON (Wow!) so that they are too PREOCUPIED TO CARE ABOUT THE PRIESTHOOD BAN."

So.... in the process of trying to keep me from making a mistake he makes the offensive assumption that Black people could be persuaded by stereotypical food.

I'm really glad that I was so surprised by this, otherwise I probably would have hit him.

This one is from one of those "Secret Video's of a Mormon Temple Ceremony" on you tube.

1. We have sex on the temple altar and the bishop sits there to watch and make sure we do it right.

2. The nonsense about how we practice Blood Atonement. "where did that come from?"

3. That we don't believe in Jesus Christ. "Uh okay our church only bears his name!"

4. For over 60 years, this one has been going around: Someone has met this guy at "Ricks College" who has a friend whose Patriarchal Blessing says that he's one of the 2 Prophets who will proselyte in Jerusalem.

5. The First Presidency prays over where every missionary is to serve. "Sorry not anymore, not for over 30+ years there is a separate committee that makes this decision and M. Russell Ballard has the portfolio to supervise over that committee."

6. That women cannot hold the Priesthood. "My wife holds me whenever she wants!"

Big myths sprayed on us by anti-mormons, ex-mormons, and people who are ignorant of our beliefs.

1. Mormons believe that God the Father and Mary had sex to have Jesus.
2. Mormons don't believe in the divinity of Jesus.
3. Mormons are conspiring to rule the world.
4. Joseph Smith chased teenage girls to seduce.
5. Mormons believe that Adam is God the Father.
6. Mormons believe that there were no native Americans until Lehi.

There are other myths sprayed on us by antimormon ignorant people, just read their weird questions, answers like Jim there.

Well to the guy above me that suggests that the idea that Mormons aren't Christians is a myth, I beg to differ. We consider ourselves Christian, meaning we believe in the order of Jesus Christ and obey his teachings, but our definition of the word "Christian" is a deception to the real "Christians" who take that name upon themselves as if it gives them some type of authority.

We Latter-day Saints have been given a name from Jesus hiimself, and that name is the Saints. So if there is one great myth about the Latter-day Saints that really chaps my hide, it is the one that insists we are Christians!

Again, don't get me wrong. We have our own definition of what a Christian is, and that definition does not include the Christians of the world who belong to the sectarian Christian churches of the world. After all, what did Jesus tell Joseph Smith about the Christian churches? "Join none of them, for they are all wrong!"

Why must the Saints lead the Christians on in a game of deception? Jesus has given us a name! It is the Saints! Let the Christians have their silly name! Why must we deceive and confuse those who are not of our faith, by saying we are them? Because, by saying we are Christians, you have got to understand that to them, that means we are trying to classify our beliefs as the same as their's. And there is nothing any further from the truth!

Again, why not take the time to explain why we are the Saints and they are not! After all, the Saints are God's people, not the "Christians."

My favorite will always be the one about us having horns. I've had people ask me to show them my horns all the time. Seriously, are people really stupid enough to believe something like that?
