You would learn the Hawaiian language just like any other language((practice)). The people of Hawaii speak Hawaiian but the majority speak English. Unlike the other Polynesian languages the Hawaiian language was not to be spoken in Hawaii at home, school or work for awhile.

Hawaiian is very much a language. It is related to the Maori language of New Zealand as both Hawaii and New Zealand were colonised by the same Polynesian people. Hawaiian has a phonology, morphology and syntax all of its own which makes it a language by any definition.
