Well, first off, don't expect a lake or a forest; never been sure where they got that name. OK, it's got a few man-made "lakes" but they're more like big cement ponds.
It's in Orange County, near the intersection of highways 5 and 405. If you aren't familiar with southern California they are two major north/south highways that are frequently jammed up. The neighborhoods are nice, not too old and not too new. Not superclose to the beach but not too far either.
It is a planned community which means everything looks nice and new; no impoverished areas that I've ever seen. It has nice public parks and schools. I'd characterize it as upper middle class.
It's close to University of Calfornia Irvine and Saddleback Community College. Lots of shopping nearby.
Ethnically it's predominently Caucasian and Asian in population from my superficial observations.
I think you'll be real happy there. The weather is very mild; not as much smog as other areas closer to Los Angeles, but there will be some in the summer especially. It certainly doesn't get cold like Illinois does so you can probably get by with a few jackets, sweaters, windbreakers and maybe one big coat but throw the rest of your winter gear away. At one point I lost my rain jacket and never got around to replacing it for three years as I never needed it.

I live a couple of hours from Salt Lake and it is a pretty nice place to live. It has a lot to do there, but there a lot of mormons which is good kind of because there doesn't seem to be as much crime. Plus it is only about 30 minutes from Park City, UT and omg it is beautiful and very ritzy

Lake Forest is great! We live in Irvine, but go to church in Lake Forest at Saddleback. People are friendly and it's a real family community. Good luck!

"Pat D" is correct in everything she stated, but she forgot to mention that it also has an excellent school system (most of Orange County does).
"Sammy&Pete" (they don't live here) are a little too far north on the city to avoid. In Orange County, Santa Ana is the city to avoid, not Anaheim.
