We were on the Disney Cruise Ship Magic this summer. Disney Cruise line is very well organized. From the moment when we landed at the airport, Disney greeted us and briefed us on all of the upcoming events and procedures prior to boarding the cruise ship.
We bought the cruise ground transporation and pre/post cruise hotel options (I recommend as they took care of everything from baggage claim to delivery to the hotel and then the ship).
Disney will send you alot of details as part of the pre-cruise research that you can do on their website, their disney cruise book you can get at Borders or Barnes & Noble, as well as a several DVD's that they send to you.
From the selection of your cabin (Disney staterooms are more like mini-suites in other cruise ships) is one of the first steps. Make reservations early to get the best rooms near the middle of the ship. Each cabin has two 1/2 baths that really makes getting ready in the morning and brushing teeth more efficient.
Disney has tons of programs not only for kids and families, but also couples, singles, and single parents. They have a unique rotating dining room schedule but there is also the buffet, snack bars, pizza stations, and adult quiet areas.
Shore excursions are a must. Like information on the cruise lines, you should do some reading on their website, disney curise books, and dvd's. Also, you might want to check out professtional and recent cruiser reviews of the Disney Cruise on www.cruisecritic.com. Here you'll find good and bad reviews, both of which help prepare you.
Shows are held normally twice a night in various parts of the ship but the big broadway type productions are in the forward theater called the Walt Disney Theater. There are also an big movie theater auditorium toward the center of the ship.
Again, do some homework. Disney is pricey but for the bigger room, service, attractions, and environment, it was well worth it.
Good Luck and Have Fun.

I have never been on a Disney ship but I will tell you what I know about their cruise line. You can also review for yourself on their web site: http://disneycruise.disney.go.com/dcl/en_US/home/home?name=HomePage
Disney is a very small cruise line since it has only two ships. That is versus 15 to 20 ships by cruise lines like Royal Caribbean, Norwegian, Princess, and Carnival. Disney does very limited cruise itineraries primarily in a few ports in the Eastern Caribbean, Western Caribbean and the Bahamas. They also do a Panama Canal cruise to/from Mexico ports and San Diego. Other cruise lines have cruises going to Alaska, Hawaii, New England and Canada, the Southern Caribbean, the Mediterranean and Baltic and South America and Australia. So your options are very limited with Disney.
Disney has been featured on the travel channel and from that and comments on Answers I have seen and heard that they have great ships, pretty much comparable with some in other cruise lines. Disney offers free soft drinks while other ships charge for them. Disney has family cabins like some other cruise lines.
Many people with kids go on Disney because they are looking for activities to keep their kid entertained and occupied. But all of the other major cruise lines also have programs for kids of various ages. So there is no need to select Disney just for your kids. Royal Caribbean, Carnival, Princess and many others have comparable programs.
Disney has a private island for its cruises to stop at, but so do the other cruise lines.
So if you want to go on Disney, do so but your cruise experience with them will not be unique except for having the Disney characters on ship.

There is no alcohol served (of course), and in my experience, the ships are not as clean as other cruise lines.
