Great question, and i am glad i am here to answer it.
First you need to know some basic things about vomit. Vomit is not just liquids and solid foods that have been sitting in your stomach for a while. Almost all the time some of those liquids and foods have been turned into gastric substances, or gastric acids. These gastric substances are very harmfully to the teeth and gums in your mouth.(Note the reason that dentists stress that you wash your mouth plenty after vomiting)I am not sure the exact time but these substances can and will erode your teeth if let sit in your mouth for a period of time.
Now to the question at hand. There is a protective reflex that happens once the brain is aware that you are going to vomit, now you might not be aware yet but your brain is(IE: if you were drunk). Signals are sent to the salivary glands, these signals you have no control over. Once your glands receive the signals they increase your normal saliva secretion. Then you vomit and that extra saliva helps prevent the vomit from sticking to your mouth or causing any damage to your teeth if you were in fact not able to remove the vomit from your mouth. Your saliva is a powerful thing and believe it or not could definitely save your teeth from vomit if it needed to. Hope I Helped!

Protection is part of it, but the main reason is because your vomit and gastric juices are very acidic and the saliva is alkaline so it helps neutralize the acid...hence the protection. Also if before you vomit you can swallow it as many times as possible, sometimes it will help prevent you from vomiting or keep you from vomiting as much.

I would like to know the answer to this too. I have asked my husband, but he doesn't seem to know what I am talking about. He's never experienced the "mouth watering" before he had to throw up.
I've tried to find answers, but maybe am looking in the wrong place. I hope someone can help out. Sorry I couldn't actually help, but just know you aren't alone.~

Apparently deep down some people savor the taste of vomit. It's just like the mouth getting ready for a juicy steak.
"Yum yum, that puke sure is delicious. My mouth is watering already."
