I would like to correct what sister rebecca has said. Believers can visit and see each other when they die.

The extraction of the soul is a painful process. The prophet pbuh used to pray that God would make the moments of death easy for him. If you are a beleiver, the extraction of the soul will be easy. For a disbeliever, the extraction of the soul is difficult. Once we die, we will see our place either in heaven or hell and our place had we chosen a different path. Our soul then returns to the grave for questioning.

For the believers, the grave will feel open and lit. For the disbelievers, the grave will feel tight and dark.

In islam, we also believe that there are several things that purify us from sin.
1- Asking God for forgiveness and not going back to the sin.
2- Sickness
3- prayers
4- pilgrimage
5-fasting
6-good deeds
If we die and your sins outweigh your good deeds, we go through punishment of the grave. This too cleanses us from our sins.

Going to heaven or hell does not happen until after the day of judgement. If you and your family dwell in paradise, you will be able to see and visit each other.

No one truly knows, do to there is no factual, without a doubt, evidence of life after death. There are only theories.
If you believe in the Bible, it states that death is like a deep sleep...no memories, no feelings, no concept of time. Only the hope of the resurrection here on Earth awaits the dead at some future date. Hopefully you'll see those loved ones again.
Reincarnation theories teach that upon death, your spirit leaves the body, goes to some heavenly dimension where you see departed loved ones. You basically take a break, until you decide to come back to live another life. This happens over and over again. You may come back as a group, born into families, with other spirits you were close with.

We will not join our families and we will not see our loved ones. After this life we will have a life in the grave. At the time of death angels will come to us. Those who are believers will see the angels as beautiful creatures and those who are unbelievers will see the angels as ugly, horrifying creatures.
After we are buried we will be asked three questions: who is your Lord; what is your religion; and who is this man? We will see the place that we will go to after The Day of Judgment. For Believers it will be Paradise and for
Unbelievers it will be The Hell-Fire. There is punishment in the grave for many. Those who are punished will cry out in pain- but only the animals are able to hear the cries of the dead.

After the body has discarded the man or woman will find themselves in a state of unending Bliss and joy and a place to digest the experience and wisdom achievements and this will be the paradise for them to all rest in,that is until the soul deems it all an illusion and will once again seek out a further incarnations experience

When we die, our body stops doing what it did when it was alive: the heart stops pumping blood around the body; the lungs stop taking in and expelling air; our cells stop dividing; and our brains stop doing what they did. This means that this collection of experiences we call "I" ceases to exist. And the body is eaten by bacteria and other organisms.

Be happy. Death is the absence of experience, so you will never know that you are dead, as there will be no "you" to know anything.

Some here say that nobody knows for sure.

Actually, there are many people who know.

I know. You can also know. But not until you study, exercise faith (faith is an action word), pray and ask, and listen to spiritual feelings in your heart. Answers could come quickly or they could take a while, but answers always come if you are sincere in your study and prayer.

No ones every came back to tell us what happens. But the bible says your spirit goes back to G-D and your body goes back to dust. The bible says the dead no nothing, hear nothing and see nothing. Until Resurrection day you know nothing.
