to have a revelation is to have an image or dream of the future brought to you by the lord... to prophesy is to have the Holy Spirit fill your being and tell fragments of the future without your brain processing it- like speaking in tongues.... Also watch out for this thread- it's full of non believer who will do anything to make you join them... just be firm in yourself and try to help them- but most will just ignore you...

The Mayan world ending prophecy was a hoax invented by 20th century charlatans and believed in mostly by children. The book of Revelations was a rambling diatribe against the Roman Empire by a man who, if he were alive today, would either be on medication or in a heavy metal band, most likely both. So lots of differences then. What they do have in common is that only a tiny number of people actually believe them. Worryingly, in the case of Armageddon, most of those people are voters in the world's most powerful democracy.

With the understanding that the bible says that the gift of prophecy was done away with, Here's how I see it.
Let's take the Apostle John and the book of Revelation. John received a vision. That was his revelation. When he wrote it down and it was shared with others it was prophecy because he shared it with others.

In Judaism and Islam the highest level of human enlightenment is embodied by the 'prophet' status.
Anyone can have a vision or revelation, because our massive thinking brain makes it possible to access higher levels of consciousness. We can bump into these "future waves" purely by accident with no spiritual elevation in the least. Stabilizing awareness of being the authentic Self (unity state) is the process of achieving enlightenment or Christ Consciousness - in which reality synchronizes with being.

a rev. is sometimes just given to the person for themselves for their walk in the Lord, other times, for a group of people as to future events that the Lord has in store for them...visions about the same..prophecy..there are several diff. kinds..personal, (the Lord to you) group, area, national, ministerial, (by the Spirit-through the gifts) and then the office of the prophet, who stands in the presence of God receiving directly from the Lord for the Church, they are all diff, but with a "twist" it's like knowing coffee, coff.with sugar, coff. w/ crm n sugar, coff. w/ heavy crm no sugar, etc. and how they are applied whether to an individual group(couple or more) or an entire body, or area, or national or world wide....and it does matter...Eph:4

Having it and speaking it are two different things.
Many visions are for personal application, not the the church in general.

Simple, there is no difference. It is just two euphemisms for Christians to use so the can say they are not using or practicing divination---when they are.
