have a Christmas tree? Did you know that the Bible forbids this?

"Thus saith the Lord, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of the heathen; for the heathen are dismayed at them.

For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe.

They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not." -- Jeremiah 10: 2- 4.

Have you displeased the Lord with your heathen tree in the past? Will you repeat your transgression this year?

Lady Butterfly: I am quoting from the KJV. I don't know what version you are using, but it really doesn't matter. You see, this passage is opposing Christians integrating "heathen" practices into their own. If I misinterpreted the specifics of this passage, the point remains the same: Winter solstice tree decorating was a pagan practice, so why are Christians doing it when Jeremiah 10 proscribes heathen practices?

If I don't have a tree, how will Santa know where to put all my presents?

If you are going to quote this get it right.

For they customs of the people are worthless they cut a tree out of the forest, and a craftsman SHAPES it with his chisel. They adorn it with silver and gold: they fasten it with nails so it will not totter.

It is talking about making and idol not a Christmas tree. When I put a Christmas tree in my home I do not bow down and worship it. It is a festive decoration to help celebrate the birth of the Savior. Yes I am a Christian and I will have a Christmas tree in my home I will but lights All over my house. In fact there will be a brown out in my town when I turn them on. It will be a Griswall family Christmas here. I Love Christmas. I love celebrating it and decorating for it. And yes I know the true meaning behind it that is what makes it so great.

You really have nothing better to do in your life than go on about a chopped down tree displayed in someone's home? I usually don't wait 'til Christmas to sin. Your misinterpretation of your version of Scriptures is sad. Seems to me that your text implies that they cut some wood and produced an icon of some sort. I hope you get free from your hang up here; smile, laugh a bit and stop taking things like Christmas trees so seriously. Silly interpretations like this is why reasonable and thinking people avoid evangelicalism like the danger it is.
